COMSTOCK: It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the passing of William Henry Comstock (Bill) at Nanaimo General Hospital, BC, on Thursday, January 9, 2014. Bill was born June 25, 1933 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Robert and Jennie Comstock. Bill had the honour of being named after one of his uncles killed in World War I. Bill attended Caswell School and City Park Collegiate in Saskatoon. He began his business career in sales where he met his wife, Marion, who he shared 43 years with until her sudden passing. Bill’s career took them to many communities, but with a wife and two children, Bill decided to put down roots and Brandon, Manitoba, became home. Bill’s career interests shifted over time to real estate. He was very well respected and served as President of the Brandon and Manitoba Real Estate Associations. Bill belonged to many organizations and charities throughout his life. He was an active Kinsmen member for 40 plus years, an honoree blood donor and in his retirement became active in the legion in Qualicum Beach. Bill enjoyed sports and played the position of goalie in hockey as a child which he continued to play until his late sixties. He also played baseball which he encouraged his oldest grandchild to play. He spent many nights cheering on the Brandon Wheat Kings. It brought Bill great joy to see his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders win The Grey Cup! Bill enjoyed traveling and went to many wonderful places in the world. Clear Lake was a spot dear to his heart where he shared many wonderful memories with family and friends. Bill loved to be active whether it was being involved with an organization, cheering on a grandchild, making his wine or his famous fudge. Bill had quick wit and sense of humour, we will miss him. Bill retired to Qualicum Beach where he married his present wife Margot Graham. Left to mourn is his wife Margot of BC; two daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Sandeman, Lynne (Ches) Bollman; grandchildren, Leah, Stuart, April, Allison and Carter; six great-grandchildren; brother Robert (Caroline) Comstock; sisters, Shirley Baldwin, Dianne (Vic) Palles; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife Marion (Spence) 1997. A private celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society in Bill’s name.
