DEBASSIGE: Ross Alexander September 9, 1940 - March 7, 2014. Our father, brother and Grandpa Ross said "we'll be talking to you later."Ross was predeceased by his loving wife Florence, and leaves his children, Russell (Debbie), Janice Pulak (Darren), Marilyn Schroeder (Roger), Matthew, and Donna Brinkworth (Lyndon). Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings Doreen Beaudin, Mabel Roy, Mervin Debassige, Bud Debassige, grandchildren Daniel, Dawson, Derek and Calista Debassige. Ross will also be missed by many foster grandchildren and his numerous nieces and nephews. Ross was born and raised in M'Chigeeng on Manitoulin Island, Ontario as one of 18 siblings. He grew up with a great appreciation of nature and enjoyed exploring the wilderness. This love of the outdoors continued after marrying the love of his life, Florence, and moving to Thompson, MB where they raised their five children. Even though he worked 33 years underground at INCO he found time to spend with his family, fishing, hunting, boating and camping, and taught his children to be loving, happy and independent. After retiring, Ross moved to Brandon and eventually settled in Erickson, MB. He continued to enjoy spending time touring the countryside and sharing and creating memories with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor, charm and being polite. His family thanks Dr. Jason Beiko and the staff at SICU and PACU at Health Sciences Centre as well as Brandon General Hospital. Ross requested a cremation but for no service to be held. Family will lay his ashes in the spring at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MB. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
