BROWN: Leannie Brown, 1917 – 2014. On March 7, 2014 at the age of 97, our much loved Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great Great Grandma left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior. Her children were with her all during her weeklong stay at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. She had never been alone during her life and we wanted to be with her to ease her journey into the next world. Mom was born January 20, 1917 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota to Gerhard and Marie Krahn, moving with her parents to Saskatchewan at age one. Three sisters and six brothers soon joined the family. Mom leaves to mourn and will be dearly missed by two brothers Gerry and Pete and their families in California and one very special sister Myrle in Arizona. Mom was predeceased by our dad, Joseph Brown in 1986. He always told mom his life began when he and mom married and they raised their large family. Their daughter Shirley died tragically in 1952, grandsons Brent in 1999, Michael in 2005, and Barry in 2012. Mom will be dearly missed as she was loved and adored by her large family: Marlene (Richard), Ken (Mary), John (Darlene), Betty (Dick), Stephen (Karen), Edna (Herb), Beven (Connie), Beverly (Bill); nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and two great great grandsons. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Mom came to Manitoba to work for a young farmer, meeting and marrying our dad in 1940. They spent the next twenty-seven years farming and raising their family in the Helston District of Manitoba, retiring to Gladstone in 1967. Mom worked at the hospital in Gladstone until moving to Brandon in 1972 where she worked at Twin Pines Motel for a couple of years. Mom was thrilled to be able to travel to Europe for two weeks, do an Alaskan Cruise, and visit California, B.C., Alberta and Ottawa many times. After her travelling days were done she really enjoyed road trips around Manitoba. She and her girls, and usually a friend, would take a yearly trip down memory lane around the old farm and surrounding country. Lunches out were another large pleasure for her. Mom was a long term member of McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church enjoying the fellowship of her church family. She took part in the Bible Study for many years, her last Bible Study being Tuesday, the day of her fall. Mom moved into Lions Manor ten years ago and enjoyed friendships with morning coffee girls, six days of the week as well as the sing-a-longs, special performances by visiting groups and in house entertainment. Thank you to all the “Lions’ Folk” for their kindness and friendship to mom through the years. Thank you to Dr. Deong for her kindness and compassion through the years. Funeral Service was held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Pastor Earl Ricalton officiated. Interment followed at Gladstone Cemetery. If friends so desire donations in memory of Leannie may be made to McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon, Manitoba R7B 2H6. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
