Merven GURR

GURR: Merven Hazen Gurr, beloved husband of Marjorie, father of Oral (Shelly) Gurr and Cindy (Harvey) Dalzell, passed peacefully into his Savior's arms, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 77 years. Merv was born on the family farm near Lenore, Manitoba on November 16, 1936. He spent his childhood and teen years working on the farm and attending Hamiota School. It was at church where he saw that 14-year-old dark haired beauty that he knew he would one day marry. Marj and Merv were married November 19, 1955. They moved to Brandon where Merv started working for Brandon Paint and Glass. In 1971, Merv ventured out and started his own business, Keystone Glass Ltd. He retired at the age of 75, but still loved visiting and checking out the jobs. Merv was a founding member of Calvary Temple, and was dedicated to the people and ministries of the church. He was a caring and compassionate man, who was always there to help others. Merv loved his wife and family dearly and was so proud of each one of them. He enjoyed all the family times spent together. Merv is also survived by grandchildren Jordan (Allison) Dalzell, Jessica (Andrew) Hansen, Braden (Ashley) Gurr, Sarah (Brett) Morgan, Joshua Dalzell. Great-grandchildren: Kyler, Declan, Charlotte and Violet. His siblings: Lorraine (John) Hersey, Merrilyn (Bruce) Nehring, Glen (Marilyn) Gurr and families. Merv was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Ethel Gurr, and in-laws Nick and Bertha Komarnisky. Funeral Service will be held at Calvary Temple, 620 - 34th Street on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Gary Jennings will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined.
