CURRY: 1932 - 2014. On Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Pembina-Manitou Health Centre, Larry Curry aged 82 years went to his eternal rest. Lawrence (Larry) Donald Curry was born May 9, 1932 in Hamiota, MB to Clarence and Winnifred (Honey) Curry. He married Everyne Johnston on September 20, 1952. Dad grew up on a farm with his family. His first business venture with his brother, Garth was Risk & Hope. They went on to buy a transfer business and moved to Manitou in 1959. The Curry Bros Business farmed, bought cattle, created the Manitou Auction Barn, the Behlen Bin Business and finally partnering with other family to start Manitous 4C gas station and restaurant. Larry also ran some businesses on his own or with other partners, notably the Lundar Auction Barn and Ranch and his golf cart business. Throughout all of these business ventures there was only one bookkeeper capable of handling the nuances of these businesses, and that was mom. Dad had a true entrepreneurial spirit and was one of Manitous biggest promoters throughout his life there. Dad was there to support his community be it the Manitou Fair 4H calf sale, a Curling Calcutta or the ball diamond and he was also a lifetime member of the Manitou Golf Course and Curling Rink. Dad had many interests in his life including baseball, golfing, curling and horses. Dad was also a great dancer and loved his country music. In his later years, his interest for current events and reading could be seen by the newspapers present on his chair or the floor. Dad became a cabin owner in Pleasant Valley and many fun times were spent on the golf course or driving the golf carts around the beach. Dads cabin was easily identified by the red geraniums found hanging from planters and fences around the cabin. Dad always loved children. He spent hours entertaining us with his famous stick out teeth routine. This routine never got old from the time we were children to the time of his grandchildren. When Dads health required him to move to Morden, it brought him closer to his grandchildren. The children knew that when you went to visit Grandpa there would be one or more jelly beans or hard candies waiting for them in his pocket or cupboard. The last two years of Dads life brought him back to Manitou. We saw the return of his sense of humour while being with friends and family in familiar settings. Dad was content and happy in his home, the Pembina Manitou Health Centre. We will be forever grateful to all the wonderful staff and friends who cared for Dad and popped by for a visit. Dad has left us all a legacy of love, laughter, loyalty and friendship. Larry was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Everyne, daughter, Patsi, his parents, sister, Audrey, brothers, Garth and Verne and son-in-law, Don Compton. He is survived by daughters, Adel, Trudy and son, Lane (Krista), eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his sister, Doreen Jenkins, sister-in-law, Shirlee Curry, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews who all knew and loved Uncle Larry. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday May 15, 2014 at St. Andrews United Church in Manitou with Rev. Bev and Laurie Simpson officiating. Public viewing will be from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Church prior to the service with a private family interment to follow at the Manitou Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larrys memory to the Pembina-Manitou Health Centre. Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden in care of arrangements, 204-822-4755 wiebefuneralhomes.com
