HOOKE: After three years of "helping" with some of the day to day nursing duties at Fairview Personal Care Home, Eileen Hooke, formerly of Douglas, Manitoba, has decided to move on. She passed away at Fairview on Sunday, May 11, 2014. Eileen was born at Mannville, Alberta on December 23, 1928, the fifth of six children. Her parents, Andy and Peggy Marshall, were immigrant farmers from Ireland. Eileen attended grade school at Lefield School, which was located close to the family farm and then Mannville for high school. In 1950, she graduated from Psychiatric Nursing in Brandon. She had a lifelong nursing career working at the Brandon Mental Hospital for thirty-seven years. Following her retirement she worked at We-Care, Dinsdale Personal Care Home, as well as private duty nursing. Eileen loved helping others and saw no reason to retire while she was well and able. "Always a Nurse". Eileen was part of the Douglas United Church Women's Institute, Douglas Seniors Leisure Group, Douglas/Lawrence Women's Group, BMHC Retirees Group and 4-H. She enjoyed golfing and some travelling but loved spending time with grandchildren. Eileen was honored when she was nominated for the Woman of Distinction Award as well as when she won the Fred Douglas Humanitarian Award in the rural Manitoba category. Eileen will be dearly missed by her children, Grant, Glen (Betty Ann) and Greta (Larry); grandchildren, Chad (Sheena), Sheena, Matthew (Jenn), Melanie (Jason), Marshall, Kurt (Tammie) and Kristi (Rob); great-grandchildren, Savannah, Jack, Karlee, Kaylee, Sophie, Sienna, Cohen and Elainna and one sister Betty Johnston. She was predeceased by husband John; parents, Andy and Peggy Marshall and brothers Jack, Leslie, Larry, Edward. The Celebration of Eileen's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Rev. Barbara Jardine officiated. Urn bearers were great-grandchildren Jack Peters and Savannah Murphy. Interment followed at the Madford Cemetery.
