CHORNEY: With great sadness we announce the passing of John Chorney on Tuesday September 2, 2014 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon with family by his side following an eleven month battle with Cancer. John was born July 2, 1934 in Newdale MB and received his education at Mount Calm School. After he moved to Brandon, he initially drove a wagon with a horse named Roy for Brandon Pure Milk. John then proudly worked 57 years for Perth’s Services Brandon, most of those years as the General Manager. Through those years he gained many friendships, acquaintances, including being a mentor to many staff, including his children. John was preceded in death by his parents Pauline and Stanley, a daughter Susan Lynette, his dearly loved granddaughter Erin Kristen, as well as his Brother Michael and Sister Sadie. He leaves to mourn his passing; his beloved Wife of 60 years, Jean; his Children Dale (Laverne), Rick (Marcey), Darcy (Darcy), Randy (Grace), Darlyn (Ian) and his youngest, Cindy. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Helen, Jennifer, Kristina, Ryan, Johnny, Kate, Lisa, Saralee, Talia, Kayla, Lesli, Aimee, Alexandra and Joella as well as his great grandchildren Sawyer, Brielle, Xander & Jaxon along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Spending time with family and friends was the essence of John’s life – His ‘endless stories’ were always the source of so many moments of laughter for all. Travel was a requirement – a few trips to England with Jean, their cottage life at Brandosa Beach, many day trips with Family and Friends by Skidoo hauling a homemade sleigh to fit ‘as many kids possible’, fishing at The Narrows, Lynches Point, camping at Manipogo Beach, and Motor home trips down to the USA year over year. His love of Golf allowed him to play on some beautiful courses across Canada with friends and family, even as far away as St. Andrews England. John will be fondly remembered for his ‘Stone Soup”, but any soup concoction was always a hit with everyone – especially Turkey Rice! He could cook a mean BBQ Prime Rib Roast, back ribs or any type of steak that would always melt in your mouth. At 74 years old, John retired from Perth’s and went on to enjoy life with some travel, continuing his love of golf and also drove three years for Brandon Air Shuttle. He loved to tell his passengers stories of adventures for hours and hours and enjoyed listening to their stories as well. Sincere thanks to all of the staff at the Assiniboine Centre Palliative Care A3 Unit including Pastor Joe for the exceptional care and compassion they gave to John. Celebration of John's Life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Bethel Christian Assembly, 440 Richmond Avenue with Joe Ball officiating. A private family interment at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Urn Bearer will be his son Randy. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Cancer Centre", 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3 or a charity of your choice. Although these months were very difficult for Dad, we were all able to stay strong for Dad by your prayers, well wishes and comforting thoughts. On behalf of our family, they are heartfelt and appreciated. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
