MADILL: On January 4, 2015, Connie Madill (nee Bucklaschuk) passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. Connie was predeceased by her son David, her father Walter, her mother Mary (nee Bird), brothers Ronald and Cameron, and granddaughter Hayley. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 39 years John, son Andrew, brothers Jerry (Brenda), Frank, Steve (Doreen), Jeffrey, Leslie, Andy, and her sister Candice Ross (Dennis). She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her biggest delight was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved them all dearly and would regale anyone with stories of their antics. Sleepovers were often and the spoiling of kids was a grandmothers given right. Whether it was making a favorite supper, baking cookies, watching a movie or reading a good bedtime story, Connie enjoyed it all. Employed for 40 years at Holy Family Nursing Home, she began her career as a nurses aid and eventually discovered her passion by entertaining and motivating the residents as a member of the Recreation department. Needless to say, Connie was deeply saddened when she was forced to retire from her dream job due to her illness. She had attained many lifelong friends during her tenure and loved many of the residents there. Connie had a true zest for life, enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, and boating. Summers spent out at the Inwood Golf and Country Club as well as the trailer park were especially memorable with lots of new friends made and good times had by all. When quiet time was needed, she enjoyed working on puzzles, needlework, and reading books. Connies desire to volunteer and help people started as a young teenager, when she began writing letters to soldiers during the Vietnam War. At the age of 16, volunteering to help people suffering from drug addiction at the Mount Carmel Clinic, which very likely steered her into the healthcare field and her lifelong service of compassion. In the fall of 2000, Connie joined Kin Canada and spent countless hours Serving the Communities Greatest Needs as a member of The Greater Winnipeg Kinettes. Holding several executive positions, sitting on committees, and running projects, Connie took the bull by the horns and served as club president in 2002-03. Connie also spent many years as a member of the Seven Oaks Game and Fish. One of her many accomplishments was combining her love of volunteering with the passion she had for her extended family at the nursing home. Connie was instrumental in organizing fun fishing days with the members of game and fish and the residents. Those trips to Lee River and the Wazney family cottage were the things that good memories are made of. Her attitude throughout this ordeal was amazing. Connie didnt want sympathy for the cards she was dealt. If you were to see her, the last thing she wanted to do was talk cancer. She was all about happy thoughts and good memories. Connie touched the hearts of everyone she met along lifes road and always met them with a smile. In the face of hardship, she taught us all strength and unwavering courage. A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. A private interment will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Connies honor to one of Connies favorite charities, The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Royal Canadian Legion, or the Literacy Partners of Manitoba.
