JONES: Leslie Garrick Jones passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at Valleyview Personal Care Home. He was born September 22, 1919 in the Regent District. Les attended West Hall School, and then farmed with his Dad until 1941. He left to join the RCAF and served until 1945 at Brandon and Linton-on-Ouse, England. After returning home, Les married Mary Christina Nelin of Boissevain on December 8, 1945. They farmed in the Regent Elgin district for 30 years, before moving to Brandon in 1976. They also lived in Calgary for eight years, returning to Brandon in 1998. Les was an Elder of the Regent United Church, a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a founding member of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum. Les was predeceased by his wife, Mary of 65 years, in 2011, his parents, Edward and Martha (Brown) Jones, his brother, Harvey (Alba), and brother-in-law, Don Wannamaker. He is survived by his son, Philip (Vivian), Brandon and daughter, Sheila (John) Oster, Blairmore, AB. Also surviving are grandchildren, Alice Christina (Darren Hamm), Theresa Nicole, Jeffery Adam, and Derrick Travis (Robyn), and great-grandchildren Ryan Alexander and Zara Nakita, He is survived by his sister, Audrey Wannamaker of P.E.I. A graveside service was held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ken DeLisle of Central United Church officiating. Grandson Jeff was the urn bearer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, 300 Commonwealth Way, Brandon, MB, R7A 5Y5 or to a charity of choice.
