CRUICKSHANK: Margaret Dorothy Cruickshank passed away at the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn, MB, on February 2, 2015 in her 96th year. She was born February 7, 1919 at her parent's farm in the Burnbank district and attended school in Elkhorn. Her parents were George and Agnes Freeman. She had one sister Marjorie, and three brothers, Charles, Stewart and Douglas. Marg married Thomas Walter Cruickshank on February 7, 1942 in the Chapel of the Residential School in Elkhorn. After Tom returned home following the war, they bought land 14 miles west of Virden in the Arawana district. Those years were some of the best years of Marg's life, raising 5 children, Lynne, Ken, Ron, Dave, and Beth. Marg and Tom were active in the Arawana School District, Elkhorn Legion, and Elkhorn Agricultural Society. On April 3rd, 1976, David accidently passed away in a car accident. In 1981, Tom & Marg moved to Virden and on April 23, 1983, Tom passed away with cancer. In Virden, Marg was active in St. Paul's United Church and in the Virden Agricultural Society. She sang in the United Church Choir and the Village Choir. She enjoyed lawn bowling and going on bus tours and family holidays. Marg was an enthusiastic spectator, travelling miles to watch her family participate in their activities. She loved to join them to play cards or go for drives ending with ice cream. In 2004, Marg moved to the Princess Lodge and in 2012, she moved to the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn. Marg's love for her family was evident. She was always optimistic, looking for the silver lining in every cloud. She was strong and independent. She loved to help others, keep busy, and "be useful". The funeral service was held in St. Paul's United Church in Virden on February 6, 2015 with Janis Campbell officiating. Interment was in Virden cemetery. Pallbearers and ushers were Marg's grandchildren who also presented the eulogy. Left to mourn her loss is her daughter Lynne (Harry) Bajus and their family, Michael (Rhonda), Matthew, Nicholas, and Emily Bajus; Jodi (Travis), Garett, Kyle, and Avrin Krieser; and Kevin (Tamara), Kyra and Tanner Bajus; her son Ken (Judy) Cruickshank, and their family Kim (Mike) Stewart; and Darren Cruickshank; --her son Ron (Brenda) Cruickshank and their family Jason (Alix) and Emma Cruickshank; and Nicole Cruickshank; and her daughter Beth (Ron) Canart and their family Teresa (Mike), Caleb and Ryan Anderson; Cathy (Terrance), Gavin, Carson, Mya and Neelah Krieser; Christina (Bryce) and Hunter Birch; and Brian (Jill) Canart; sister-in-law Agnes Freeman; brother-in-law John Cruickshank; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Marg was predeceased by her parents, George and Agnes Freeman, her parents-in-law, Charles and Helen Cruickshank, her son David, her husband Tom, her sister Marjorie Paton, her brothers Charlie Freeman, Stewart Freeman and Doug Freeman, her brother-in-law, Allan Cruickshank, her sisters- in-law Ella Garlick and Ina Nolan.
