WOTTON: Peacefully our loving mother and grandmother, Catherine Elizabeth Wotton (nee Robertson) passed away during the morning of April 8, 2015 at the Brandon General Hospital at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by husband of 61 years Kenneth in 2009. Catherine will be greatly missed by her son Doug Wotton, (Elizabeth), their children Erika Wainwright, (Marty), Krista Lewthwaite (Andrew), and Danielle; son Myles Wotton (Lori), their children, Janel Wotton, Danica Burgess, (Glen), Riley Wotton, (Amanda); son Ward Wotton; and Neil Wotton, (Karensa) and their children Mya, Chase and Eli. She had great grandchildren Robson, Ronan, Natalya, Sawyer, Cain, and Andy. She leaves to carry on her spirit her sisters in Birtle, Margie, Karen (Tip), and Pat (Pug). She has a younger brother Peter in Alberta. She was predeceased by her oldest brother Bill. Catherine was born March 22, 1926 in the RM of Bolton near Inglis to John and Millicent Robertson. She had two brothers Bill and Peter, three sisters, Margie, Patricia (Pug) and Karen, (Tip). She was a pioneer and had many stories about life on a her father’s homestead. Before her father helped build a school and convinced a teacher to come to the area she had to move away to go to school for one year at the young age of six years. When the Robertsons moved from the family farm to Foxwarren she met her husband Ken Wotton and they were married in 1948. In 1951 when Ken started working with Manitoba Telephone System they moved to Birtle. Catherine’s mother died in 1958 and that is when she moved in with her Father so she could help him raise her two younger sisters. Catherine was the oldest of six children, whose mother died at an early age. Her sisters recognized that she had a lifetime of responsibilities for them. She was a loving, caring person who they knew would always be there for them. Catherine and Ken moved to Deloraine in 1965 where she and the three boys helped Ken build a new house for them. They enjoyed their time in Deloraine for 36 years. Catherine was active in the community and her church. She was on the hospital board, UCW, a member of the Legion Auxillary, and sang in the United Church choir. She was a curler, a golfer, member of the Deloraine quilters, and enjoyed many summers at Lake Metigoshe in the family cottage. She worked for a period of time at both the Robinson Store and the Deloraine Co-op. She was a tremendous homemaker, cook, gardener, quilter, and will always be remembered by her grandchildren for the buns, cookies, preservatives and the special quilt that she made for each of them. Catherine’s father was born in Scotland and one of the high lights in her life was travelling with her sister Margie back to Scotland to visit her family roots. She had many picture albums of that trip and the picture she showed the most was of her kissing the Blarney Stone. She was a proud Scot and she would have smiled when the Piper played Amazing Grace at her funeral. During their retirement years Ken and Cathy travelled in the winters to Florida, Phoenix, the Maritines, and Vancouver Island. After Ken had his stroke in 2001 Catherine and Ken moved to Riverheights Terrace in Brandon. They lived there for 5 years and in their 80th year in 2006 they decided that they had enough of the snow and decided to live in Vanvouver with their youngest son Neil. He built them a special suite in his home that had many features that made Ken’s life easier. They enjoyed their time in Vancouver but In 2009 after Ken’s death, Catherine decided to move back to Birtle to be closer to her sisters. In 2012 Catherine moved back to Brandon to Riverheights Terrace for a year and then moved and spent the last year of her life at Sokol Manor Assisted Living. She really enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff in this smaller setting and felt she had found the perfect place to live. We would like to thank the staff at Sokol Manor for their care and support during her residency. Cremation and a Church Service has taken place in the Rivers United Church on April 14, 2015. A small graveside service will be held later this summer so she can rest beside her husband Ken in the Foxwarren Cemetery.
