EDWARDS: On February 15, 1936 Verne Robert Edwards was the second son born to Robert and Gertrude Edwards, at Jordan Siding, near Roland MB. Verne was 12 years old when he was sent to Virden to work for Mr. McCabe. Eventually he moved to the new family farm at Pipestone, MB. Verne worked many jobs, mostly with heavy equipment to help support the family. On July 4, 1970 Verne married Glenis Foote of Pipestone. They raised 3 daughters on the family farm. Verne worked very hard raising cattle, horses, chickens and daughters. He also drove a CAT on oil sites for years and helped various farmers with custom work. In 1999 Verne and Glenis sold the cattle and started renting out their land. His focus then was Glenis who was battling breast cancer. March 9, 2001 Verne's love of his life lost that battle. Verne spent a lot of time at Turnbull's shop pumping gas and keeping Robert company. For a man who loved people, this was the perfect way to spend his retirement. Verne stayed on the family farm, until he moved to the Melita Lodge in 2012, and thoroughly enjoyed it. In October 2013 Verne sold the family farm. Verne lost a very brief battle with lung cancer January 8, 2015. He fought hard for the last few months, until there was no way to get better. Then like the gentleman he has always been, he slipped away comfortably, quietly, and peacefully, exactly as he deserved. Verne was easy to love with that beautiful smile and those sparkling blue eyes. He will be missed by so many. Verne was predeceased by his parents Bob and Gertie Edwards, his wife Glenis, brother Blake and sister-in-law Em Edwards, sister Evelyn Critchlow, and nephew Warren Edwards. Verne will be missed by his 3 daughters: Tabetha of Pipestone, Charlotte and Pamela both of Brandon. 6 siblings: Lyall (Francis) Edwards of Fort St. John, BC, Harold Edwards (Lucy Primeau) of Red Cliff, AB, Fred (Ann) Edwards of Silver Ridge, MB, Gladys (Doug) Campion of Pipestone, Joan Fletcher of Melita, Mel (Penny) Edwards of Pipestone, brother-in-law John Critchlow of Virden, brother-in-law Darryl Foote of Burnaby BC, numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Verne's funeral was January 14, 2015, at The Pipestone Community Hall. His girls would like to thank everyone for all of their kindness and generosity.
