GREGORY: At the Assiniboine Palliative Care Unit, on Saturday, May 16, 2015, after a short and sudden illness with cancer, John Roy Gregory left us, with his brother Larry and sister-in-law Marg by his side. Roy was born in McConnell, Manitoba on January 21, 1933 and was the fifth child to Jack and Helen Gregory. At a very young age, Roy moved with the Gregory family to Hamiota, Manitoba where he became older brother to best sibling Larry. Roy attended school in Hamiota and in 1955 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces. While on leave, before going overseas, Roy met his future wife of 57 years Sonia. While overseas Roy courted his future bride with plenty of letters being exchanged between them. They married on April 19, 1958 and the next year their first and only child was born at the Hamiota Hospital. In 1971, Roy and his family left Hamiota and moved to Thompson, Manitoba where he was employed at INCO and later Indian and Northern Affairs. In 1974, Roy and family moved once again, to Brandon, Manitoba. Here he was self-employed as a carpenter and remained here for the rest of his life, building himself a garage at the age of 80 years. Roy is survived by his daughter Barbara (Morley), grandchildren Shea Wiley, Aaron Wiley, Rhianan Gregory (Justin), Rachel Robertson (Cody), Emmett Robertson, great-granddaughter Helena, brother Larry (Marg) Gregory, sister-in-law Olga Harapiak, ten nieces, five nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Sonia (by 48 days), parents Jack and Helen Gregory, brothers Lyle, Bernie, Glen (Ruth), sister Eunice Everett (Wilfred), in-laws Mary and Mike Harapiak, brothers-in-law Stanley (Arlene) and Orest Harapiak and nephew Dean Harapiak. Over the years Roy enjoyed golfing and fixing antique cars of which he had quite a few. Roy's attitude was if it needed to get done nothing would wait with him. Everyone will miss him and his dry sense of humour. No formal funeral service will be held. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Roy may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com
