BENNETT: Olive Bennett (nee Olha Kowalchuk) 1914 - 2015. The family is saddened to announce that Olive Bennett passed away at the Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home in Brandon on July 16th, 2015, just two days short of her 101st birthday. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, her parents, Ivan & Sandena Kowalchuk, and sisters, Stephanie, Anna, Claudia and Mary and brothers, Steven, William and Daniel. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Keith, daughter-in-law Beverley and granddaughters, Sandina and Amy. She is also survived by one sister, Audrey Kowalchuk and many nieces and nephews. Olive was born on July 18th, 1914 in her pioneer parents log house near Angusville, Manitoba. When she left home she first worked as a hired girl at a local farm and then in Winnipeg at various jobs. Olive married Bill Bennett in 1941 at Suffolk, New Brunswick. Their son Keith was born in 1942 in Winnipeg. Olive loved to garden as well as to cook and bake. We all have many happy memories of sharing wonderful meals of borscht, perogies and cabbage rolls. Family and friends were always welcome at the Bennett homes on Berry and Conway Streets and also out at Kenton. Olive was a caring and compassionate person; she provided a home for her mother for many years as well as her nephew whom she mothered for the first 5 years of his life. Aunt Olive also enjoyed having the hunters stay with her for over twenty-five years during deer season. In 2002 she moved to Brandon and continued to live independently until a fall earlier this spring hospitalized her and forced her to move into Hillcrest. Cremation has taken place and as per her wishes a private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
