ATAMANCHUK: It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Nestor Edward Atamanchuk, Sunday 19 July 2015. Nestor passed peacefully during his sleep while on vacation, enjoying life and surrounded by his family. He will be sadly missed by his wife Ronnie Jane, children Tanis (Bruce Lowry), Zoe and Trevor, grandchildren Gregory, Sean and Ian Lowry, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Lena Neault (Grabowski, nee Atamanchuk) and brother Perry Grabowski. He survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters Adeline (Dawson) Switzer, Joyce Brown and Marcy Grice and families, his foster family Florence McKay, Bernice Myllyniemi, Bill McKay and his large extended family. Nestor was born in Dauphin Manitoba September 18, 1945. He worked as an orderly at the Assiniboine Hospital in Brandon for a period of time before working for an uncle in construction, becoming a Journeyman Carpenter. Nestor later fulfilled his life-long goal of becoming a psychiatric nurse working with geriatrics. In 1998 he graduated with a Bachelor Science degree in mental health. He retired in 2008 while working at Rideau Park Personal Care Home. Nestor loved nature, being outdoors, fishing and spending time with his family at the cabin. He was proud of his family, and took special pride in his grandchildren. Nestor loved learning and sharing his knowledge and experiences; hed offer advice when asked for his opinion and he would tell you what you do with the information is up to you. He had a quirky sense of humor that always made everyone laugh. Beyond enjoying time with his family, in his retirement he took pleasure in Monday coffee meetings with friends at Tim Hortons, tinkering around, watching bird activity in the yard, afternoon naps, watching the news and of course the weather channel and last but not least an occasional Extra Old Stock beer. A tea and celebration of life will occur at the River Bank Discovery Centre in Brandon, Saturday 01 August 2015 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. We wish to express thanks to the Oliver EMS, RCMP and Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service and Crematorium for their assistance and services, to Bernice Myllyniemi for opening her home and providing extra support while in BC, and to Darlene Paquette for co-ordinating arrangements in Brandon while we made our way back home.
