BURTON: Violet Julia was born to William and Stella Halliday on October 5, 1930. She was one of seven children raised on the family farm near Minto, Manitoba. Vi received her grade 12 in a one room school in Fairfax. She shared many stories about her neighbour friends and her travels to and from school in a horse drawn wagon. She moved to Brandon to attend college and received her Stenographers Certificate. She worked at Yaegar's Furs until she married Lloyd Burton in May of 1954. Together they raised four children in the family home. Vi enjoyed gardening and had a lovely vegetable garden and many beautiful flower beds. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Abbey, Sarah and Erik enjoyed stopping by on the way to and from school for special moments and a treat. She spent many hours playing Barbie dolls with Jordan. She taught Jessica and Emma how to make her famous buns. Vi was a grandma to all the neighbourhood children, often sending them home with bouquets of her garden flowers. She loved to gather her family around the dining room table for great food and great company. Card games and board games created many hours of laughter after her wonderful meals. Everyone was always welcome at her table and in her home. Vi was predeceased by her parents Bill and Stella; daughter Mavis; sister Doris; brothers-in-law: Melvin, Alvin, Alex, George, Russ, Noel, and Bev; sister-in-law Sally; and her son-in-law Peter. She is survived by her husband Lloyd of 61 years; children: Barbara Harpe, Glen (Kathy), and Diane; son-in-law Jason; her precious grandchildren Abbey, Sarah, Erik (Jillian), Jordan, Jessica and Emma (Tanner). Her loving and kind spirit will be missed. We will find comfort in our special memories of her. To Celebrate Vi's Life, a Come & Go Memorial Reception was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, July 30, 2015. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Vi may be made to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
