DILLON: Helene Elizabeth Dillon (nee Thomson) of Brandon, MB; formerly of Hamiota, MB; passed away at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, MB on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 92 years of age. Helene was born on July 16, 1923 at Rocanville, SK to R.A.C. (Bert) and Margaret Thomson.  In 1930 the family including Elvaretta, Helene, Evelyn and Bill moved to Hamiota, MB and settled there on her paternal grandparents farm N 1/4 27-13-23.  Later sister Verona joined the family there. She attended the Hamiota Consolidated School and won the Isbister Scholarship in Grade XI and the Manitoba Government Scholarship in Grade XII, enabling her to attend United College in Winnipeg.  In 1943 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Back in Hamiota, she joined the staff of the Hamiota Consumer's Co-op as a bookkeeper. (1942-1950)  In 1950 she married Tom Dillon and settled on farm NE1/4 27-13-23 where Joan, Peter and Paul joined the family.  In 1966 she joined the staff of the Hamiota District Hospital as Secretary-Treasurer. This was a dynamic period in the development of integrated care, culminating in the formation of the Hamiota District Health Centre in 1972. In 1983 she retired to enjoy the farm and garden and the visits of two grandchildren, Andrea Dawn and Teri Shana.  She and Tom also enjoyed various trips to the Netherlands and the British Isles.  In 1997 they retired to the town of Hamiota. Helene was ever mindful of the enduring values of truth and beauty and her broad interests encompassed various philanthropic causes at home and abroad. Left to cherish Helene's memory are:  children; Joan (Detty), Peter (Mary), Paul (Stephanie), grandchildren; Andrea Dillon and her mother Elaine Black, Teri Jenkins and her husband Jon, sisters;  Elvaretta Smith, Evelyn Gunson and Verona Brook, sister-in-law Betty (Thomson) Golding and nieces and nephews.  Helene was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 2003, brother W.A.J. (Bill) Thomson in 1980 and by her parents Bert and Margaret Thomson and her parents-in-law William and Ada Dillon. A service to celebrate Helene's life will be held at the Hamiota United Church, Hamiota on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm with interment following in the Hamiota Cemetery.  For those so desiring, donations may be made in Helene's memory to the Hamiota United Church Memorial Fund, Hamiota, MB, R0M 0T0 or to a charity of one's choice.  Messages of condolence and/orphotos can be shared at www.campbellfuneralhome.ca.  Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota are entrusted with the arrangements.  (866) 620-2744.
