BOYKO: It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Boyko at the Brandon Hospital. After a very brief hospital stay (1 1/2 days), John passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. His entire life was blessed with good health. John is survived by his wife Bernice and daughter Karen. John was born on December 31, 1924, and raised in Brandon. He was the only child of Peter and Barbara Boyko. On November 26, 1966, John married Bernice Janush. John was a north-end boy and through his life he lived in three different houses on 6th Street North. He attended David Livingstone, B.C.I. and graduated Grade 12 from Earl Haig School. This was followed by a brief Army posting in B. C. Upon his Brandon return, he commenced his lifelong career spanning 42 years with the Canadian Pacific Railroad. He retired deliberately on April Fools Day, so he could remember the date. In retirement, John became a country boy. He bought an acreage south of Brandon, had a house moved onto it, and began the next phase of his life - country living. He enjoyed gardening, his pets, and being outdoors with nature. John was an avid newspaper reader and CBC radio talk show listener. He taught himself television, radio, vehicle, plumbing, and electrical repair. He was always willing to help with projects around the house, no matter how long it took, it was completed. John’s funeral was held on Monday, August 18th, 2014 at Memories Chapel. John was laid to rest at the Brandon Cemetery.Always Remembered
