HONEY: George Honey, age 89, farmer, pilot, fisherman and hunter, passed away on August 28, 2015 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, MB after a lengthy illness. Dad spent the majority of his free time plotting a way to escape to the Lake of the Prairies to catch that “big one” or waiting for fall to arrive to outwit that flock of “honkers”. Dad was born at the family farm, and as he always said “on the kitchen table” on July 21, 1926. He married Margaret Emilie Hartung of Langenburg, SK on June 16, 1949; together they raised two daughters Carol and Kathy. Although farming was his life’s work, his true passion was flying. In summer, he could be seen flying low over fields spraying for weeds, grasshoppers and army worms. In winter the struts of CF-NCH could be seen loaded down with wolves, coyotes and foxes. He leaves to mourn, his daughters Carol Friesen of Chilliwack, BC and Kathy (Brian) Zimmer of Brandon, MB; three grandsons, Kris Zimmer, Kory Zimmer and Jordan (Melissa) Friesen; 5 great-grandchildren, Karter, Kyra, and Kruz Zimmer and, Grayson and Aubrey Friesen; and special “granddaughter” Jen Zimmer. Dad was laid to rest at the Russell Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Russell Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Thank-YouOur family would like to express sincere gratitude to family and friends for their visits to the Brandon Assiniboine Centre and telephone calls during Dad’s illness. Thank you to the Assiniboine Centre staff for their care during his stay. Special thanks to Mike and Jayne Totte for their assistance at the ceremony on such a blustery day and to Mike for guiding us through Dad’s “Celebration of Life”. ~ With sincere thanks, Carol Friesen & Kathy Zimmer, and families
