GLOVER: It is with sadness the children of Marion Glover announce her passing on Friday, November 27, 2015. Born April 23, 1926 at Napinka, Manitoba. Marion Ada was the first of nine children born to Margaret Dorothy Goring and John (Jack) Barnes. Marion received her elementary schooling at Waskada, and attended high school at Alexander. Upon graduation in 1946 she entered Wheat City Business College in Brandon and that same year in July began employment at the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Co. where she worked till her marriage in 1950. Marion was active in sports skating, playing baseball, and curling. During a sports day at Ninette she met Jim Glover, they married October 11, 1950, and moved to a farm at Margaret. They were married for 53 years before Jim passed away. During the first few married years Marion was busy raising four children and working on the farm. She was always gardening, knitting, or crocheting, and a quilt was always in the frame in the basement. In later years she became very proficient at needlepoint. In 1968 Marion returned to work outside the home gaining employment at the Turtle Mountain School Division. In 1973 she began work as Secretary Treasurer of the Wawanesa Hospital, and was employed at the Department of Highways in Boissevain in 1977. After retiring from the highways in 1982 she began work at Parrish and Heinbecker Ltd.in Boissevain. Marion and Jim made three trips overseas to England, Scotland, and France. She travelled in western Canada visiting family and friends, enjoyed camping, horse races, and small town fairs. In the early 1980s she led the Weight Watchers group in Boissevain, and took up ceramics. Mom was a member of the IODE Chapter 1022, was one of the founding members of the Boissevain Recycling Project in 1990 of which she was very proud and active in till about 2004. After leaving she still maintained a keen interest. In 2005 with Jims picture in her suitcase she went on a cruise to Alaska. It was a trip they had planned and couldnt fulfill together. After quilting for a lifetime Marion thought she didnt know enough and began quilting classes. She was an avid gardener loving her flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. After Jims death Marion continued volunteering at the Evergreen Personal Care Home taking a great interest in the lives of the residents there. In 2012 Boissevain Town Council awarded her with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her years of volunteering in the community and the volunteer recognition award. Mom was pleased and proud of both and honored that she was recognized by her community. Marion was a wonderful role model for her children in both her private and public life. Here was a woman of great strength, loyalty, tenacity, and compassion. She was always learning, trying new things, growing, dispensing advice and opinions both wanted and unwanted on any topic. Marion leaves to mourn four children: Bill (Angelle) of Elkhorn, Manitoba, Russell (Brenda) of Margaret, Manitoba; Barbara (Warren) of Brandon, Manitoba, Sheila (Lance) of Calgary, Alberta and numerous grand and great grandchildren. Sister and brother: Jean (Les) Medd of Ninette, Manitoba, Bob (Pat) Barnes of England.
