CARR: It is with deep sadness we announce the tragic passing of Bill Carr on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the age of 59. William Del Carr was born in Melita, MB on December 20, 1956 to parents Delbert and Jane (Roblin) Carr. He was raised on the home farm ten miles north of Melita in the hamlet of Bede. Bill, at the age of 5, began his education in a one-room school house across the track. He later transferred to Melita School and graduated in 1974. Growing up he helped in the farming operation with his parents. Although Bill’s dad passed away in 1972, he continued farming. After receiving his education he left the area to seek employment in the winter months. In 1978, the cattle herd was dispersed and in 1985 Bill quit farming and moved to Winnipeg. With a love for the outdoors, he started a position with Kildonan Tree Service and then was employed with Shelmerdine’s Lawn Maintenance & Landscaping for 4 years. In 1996, Bill returned home and began working for David Holden on his ferret ranch for 2 years. He then resumed his employment at Shelmerdine’s for another 7 years. He finally moved home for good, working at Holden’s and eventually started up his own business in lawn fertilizing & weed control spraying – “A Touch of Green.”Bill, often known as Winkles, had several passions. From an early age he was an avid sports fan. He participated in baseball and curling and enjoyed following various professional leagues. He could remember play-by-play from prior games to a tee! And, music! Oh, he loved his music! He followed different the bands and took great pride in remembering the member’s names, their songs and all their accomplishments. His gift of acute memory was phenomenal and it was always a highlight seeing his favourite acts perform. Bill met and married Donna Vercaigne and was blessed with two beautiful daughters. Megan was born in 1996 and then Katie in 1998. Although he had many loves, nothing came close than his love for his two girls. His eyes sparkled as he spoke of them to others and even more when he spent time with them making many precious memories. He watched with pride as they grew into the lovely young ladies they have become. His love for family was profound. Bill was precise and immaculate in caring for his possessions. He was meticulous with his vehicles, his equipment and the countless lawns he sprayed. He travelled many miles to various townships and was focusing to broaden his range this year. Bill cared for his customers and strived to keep them happy with his work ethic. Even if the clock was a factor for the next yard he always made time to visit. We, as his family, on behalf of Bill, would like to thank his staff and his clients for the support you gave, making one of his dreams become reality. Bill was a soft spoken sort and never meant any harm to anyone. His friendship and love for people was genuine. He enjoyed visiting on the street and extended a helping hand when needed. He always thought that a smile went miles! Bill did touch many people and played many roles in his short life as a son, a father, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a nephew or a friend. He tried his best to fill the spot. A memory to truly cherish. Bill’s Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Napinka Community Hall, Napinka, MB. with Rev. Barb Alston officiating. The service was followed by a private family burial at the Napinka Cemetery. Bill was predeceased by his father, Delbert, in 1972 and his nephew, Christopher, in 2005. Left to mourn his passing is his mother Jane; daughters, Megan and Katie; sister, Vicki; brother-in-law, Boyd; nephew, Quinn as well as many family members and friends. Donations in memory of Bill may be directed to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements in care of Redpath Funeral Home, Melita, MB. Neil Redpath and Kurt Ardron – Funeral Directors (204) 522-3361.
