DROST: On March 14, 2016 Helena Marie "Helen" Drost passed away at the Minnedosa Hospital. Born March 10, 1921 in Candiac, Saskatchewan, at the age of three Helen, along with her family, moved to Brandon where Helen attended Fleming School. Her first communion was celebrated at St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church. During her working years, Helen was the second short order cook in the Lycium Cafe in Brandon, followed by first short order cook at the Olympia Cafe. Helen left Brandon for a short period, living with relatives in Saskatoon and Regina. She then returned to Brandon to live on McDonald Avenue, where she met John and they were married in 1942. In 1943, John and Helen moved to the farm where they have resided to this day. Helen was a long time member of the Rapid City Legion and in her spare time enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, doing puzzles, reading, and baking with her woodstove. She loved her pets, farm animals, and above all her family. Remaining to cherish Helen's memory are: her husband John; son, Charles (Myrna) Drost and their children Theresa (Steve) Henry, Tracy Glover (Rory Perron), Trevor (Marnie) Drost; daughter, Barb (Richard) Elder and children Richard Jr. (Shelley), Charmaine (Heath) Porritt; daughter, Irene Willey (Ken Opperman) and their daughter Donna (Denny) Bessen; daughter, Katherine "Joyce" Zetterstrom and her children Coralie (Kallie) Campbell, James Stanley and Jordan Zetterstrom; son, Leonard (Tammy) Drost and their children Jason Drost, Nicholas (Dezirae) Drost. There are nineteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Family and friends gathered at Memories Chapel for a private funeral service on Friday, March 18, 2016. Rev. Fr. Michael Raj Savarimuthu of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church officiated. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Minnedosa Health Centre for Palliative Care Services, Box 960 Minnedosa, MB R0J 1E0.
