There was great excitement on the afternoon of May 21st, 1936 on the Livingstone Homestead located just outside of Pine Creek, MB, twins Edna and Ernie were born, the family was now complete. Growing up on the family farm everyone had their daily chores. They worked hard but the love and laughter filled the air! With so many kids a bucket of ice cream only lasted one meal! Ernie loved to build things, on October 9th, 1957 at the age of 21 years old, he signed Apprenticeship Agreement between Magnacca Building Projects Ltd. The next 4 years under the direction of Ernie Magnacca he continued to work towards his carpentry diploma. On Tuesday, June 20th, 1961 he wrote his final exam and passed with flying colors! He was thrilled to be Certified Journeyman's Carpenter. He could nail in a spike with two short hits, no air nailers back in those days. He loved to see a building rise from the ground to final completion. Ernie worked on big projects Assissiboine Centre, Brandon Shoppers Mall, Keystone Centre, Benco Pre-fab homes and then started his own business, Ernie Livingstone Builders. In 1972 he decided to build his family their dream home. He moved the tiny house to Oak Lake Beach and it became the family cottage. Summer holidays were spent at the lake, he loved to sit by the campfire, toast hot dogs. The family TV was tuned in every Saturday to Hockey Night in Canada. Cold frostie beside him and he sat on the edge of his seat and played every inch of the game, his arms waving in the wave and cursing at that refs! His favorite NHL team, the Chicage Blackhawks! He was season ticket holder for his hometeam, Brandon Wheat Kings! He was glad to have two Wheaties living at the house. He knew all the stats and cheered on his boys to win the Memorial Cup. You can still hear the echo, ‘Hey boys Kraft Dinner is ready!’ Then in summer of 1985 the Michegan ball players arrived in a jam packed Datson. He had a great summer watching his two new adopted sons playing baseball at the Cloverleaf Stadium. He cheered on his boys and loved yelling at the Ump ‘No way that guy was out’. We loved sitting with the boys and drinking a cold beer after the game. Ernie loved the mountains, out of the blue he wanted to move. In 1989, they sold everything and moved to BC. He continued to build cabinets and Donna managed Bole Apartments. He enjoyed dancing at the legion branch #280, car shows and country fairs. Early morning, round of golf and in later years, tap ins at Cultus Lake. On October 2, 1995 the apple of his eye arrived, Kaitlyn Rose Whaley. He was her greatest playmate, he walk her to kindergarten, push her hours on the swing, taught her how to ride a bike. He was thrilled when she decided to play hockey, he loved to tie her skates. He was her #1 fan, we proudly wore her Nait jersey. He cheered her on to win the ACAC Women’s Hockey Championship! Go Whaley Go! His passion for the love of hockey will continue to live on thru the legacy of Kaitlyn Rose. He lived his life to the fullest, loved to joke around, tell a story or two. Ernie will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone that knew him. Please join the family as we honor and celebrate the life of a wonderful man.
