CREASER: Peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2016, with family at his side, Stan Creaser passed away at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Regina, Saskatchewan, at age 90 years. Stan is survived by his wife of 64 years Elizabeth; son Philip (Valerie Paulson); two grandchildren Ashley (Alfredo Young), and Ian Creaser; five great grandchildren Nicholas, Chloe, Emerit, Jaxon and Burke; sister Dorothy and brothers Jack, Ron and Allen. He was predeceased by his parents Edgar and Ida (nee Lafurgy); sisters Elizabeth, Joan and Florence and brothers Harold, Cliff and George. Stan was born in Bethany, Manitoba on May 16, 1925, the first of eleven brothers and sisters, and grew up in the great depression. In 1942, he joined the army at age 17 and after a year of training landed at Juno Beach on D-day June 6, 1944. He was wounded at Carpiquet airport in July 1944 and after his return to action he participated in the liberation of Holland and was again wounded at the Leopold Canal, which ended the war for him. Later in life, he often told stories of the war and was very surprised in 2014 to be awarded the Chevalier de la Legion DHonneur from the President of France for his role in the liberation of France. Following his return to Canada, Stan started his career in the mining industry. At a mine at Long Lake in northern Manitoba he met Elizabeth Murray, the beautiful mine nurse, whom he married on November 17, 1951 in Foxwarren, Manitoba. After many years moving from mine to mine they moved to Esterhazy where Stan participated in the building and development of the first potash mine in Saskatchewan and he stayed there until his retirement in 1985. Once retired, he and Elizabeth moved to Clear Lake Manitoba to spend the summers and Weslaco, Texas in the winters. The last seven years Stan lived with Elizabeth at Wintergreene in Regina to be near their family. Stan loved his family, golf, cards, shuffle and carpentry. He was a regular at the Clear Lake golf course for many years and in the winter golfed almost daily in Texas. As a veteran of WWII, he was a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he served in many capacities over his lifetime. The graveside ceremony will take place in the Veterans Section of the Brandon Cemetery on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with the Very Rev. Nigel Packwood officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Stan may be made to the Pasqua Palliative Care Unit or the Royal Canadian Legion.
