ANDERSON: Lauren Darice Anderson passed away peacefully on June 15, 2016 at the Hamiota District Health Centre after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born on August 20, 1957 in Hamiota, MB; the second child and only daughter of Marilyn and the late Lloyd Anderson. Lauren’s school years began in 1963 as she attended Oakner School through the 4th grade and then completed grades 5-12 in Hamiota. She then went on to the U of M in 1975 and graduated with her B.Ed. in 1979. After a year of teaching in Hartney, MB she chose to resume her former career in Brandon in the accounting department at McKenzie Seeds. There she worked faithfully for the next 29 years, right up to the time of her original cancer diagnosis in 2009. Throughout her life Lauren excelled in ladies’ hockey and fastball, both of which she absolutely loved to play. As well, she selflessly volunteered countless hours of time to keep score at all levels of baseball; from kids’ minor league baseball right up to the MSBL. In June 2009, her life then took a dramatic turn. After her initial brain surgery at that time, she endured several rounds of treatment over the course of the next six years. In stark contrast to her previously active life-style, Lauren was virtually bedridden from September of 2015 right up to the time of her passing. Left to mourn Lauren’s passing are her mother Marilyn of Hamiota and brothers Kelvin (Brenda) of Calgary, AB; Marshall of Brantford, ON; and Derek (Kim) of Calgary, AB. Lauren is also survived by nieces and nephews Aaron (Ben) Gratton, Brett, Lindsay, Nathan, Amanda Anderson; great nieces and nephew Charlotte, Julianna and Kohen Gratton; all of Calgary, AB. Lauren was predeceased by her father Lloyd in October of 2015. A service to celebrate Lauren’s life was held at Hamiota United Church Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug Martindale officiating. Preceding the service was the interment at Scotia Cemetery, Hamiota Municipality at 9:30 a.m. Following the service was a time of fellowship and refreshments in Chumah Hall. For those so desiring, donations may be made in Lauren’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248 Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9 or to Hamiota United Church Memorial Fund, Hamiota, MB, R0M 0T0. Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota, were in care of arrangements.
