SHORT: Lawrence Holwell Short passed away June 26, 2016 at the age of 95 at Riverdale Personal Care Home, where he resided since September of 2015. Lawrence was born on September 28, 1920 to Esther and George Short and was raised on the family farm seven miles north of Rivers, MB. In 1946 he married Charlotte Fraser Blandford of Rivers. Together they raised three children: Gerald, Lorna and Norman. Dad started farming full -time in his late teens when his father fell ill and remained on the same farm until 1991, at which time he and Lottie moved to Rivers. Dad was not much for livestock and was glad when the last cow went down the lane in the mid 50s. Now he had more time to devote to working in the shop where he loved to build machinery, a cultivator, two land scrapers, front end loader, snow plows and tractor cabs for himself and a few neighbors were some of the pieces he manufactured. He also built 4 different camping units, from a trailer to a motor home. As he grew closer to retirement age, he started building radio controlled model airplanes from scratch, spending many long hours working in his airplane shack. Mom and Dad spent many happy winters down south, mostly in Mesa, Arizona, meeting up with new found friends at the trailer park. It was there that his friend Les Dyer got him hooked on golfing, and he spent many happy days golfing at Riverdale Golf Course right into his 90s. A proud moment for him was when he golfed his age on 18 holes. Lawrence was predeceased by his wife Lottie and sister Muriel. Lawrence is survived by his three children: Gerald (Lorna), Lorna (Glenn McGregor), Norman (Donna); two sisters Hazel Skuce and Clara Hornibrook; grandchildren Marie (Kevin), Laurie (Sam), Steven (Sarah), Kristie (Andrew), Jeremy, Maraleigh, and six great grandchildren. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
