JAGO: It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Thomas Sidney Jago at the Souris Hospital on June 8th with family at his side. Left to treasure his memory his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy (Ludlam), children Shirley Jago (Terry Elliott), Brenda Empey (Jim), Barbara Elliott (Garth) and Glenn Jago (Leah). Grandchildren Sydney Jago (Colin James), Wyatt, Jurnee and Tate Elliott, Nicole Empey, Selena Empey (Jeff Freiheit) and Sheldon Empey, Ryan Elliott (Alexina Labrecque), Cory Elliott (Heather MacAuley), Craig Jago, Karissa Butler (Jeremy), Tara Jagoand great-grandchildren, Kade and Jaylen Butler. He is also survived by brother George (Donna), brother-in-law Jim Ludlam (Isabelle), sisters-in -law, Heather Ludlam and Martha Jago and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Rosina Jago, in-laws Roland and Margaret Ludlam, sisters Ethel Jago and Edith Cranfield, brothers and spouses: Ernie and Bessie, Bill and Joan and Ruth, Jim, Lorne and Marina, Ken and Marj, Cecil and bothers-in -law Keith Cranfield and Keith Ludlam. Sid was born April 30, 1930. He was the ninth child of Jim and Rosina Jago. Sid attended school until grade nine at Stonehill School. He went to Reston for grade 10, 11 and 12 and boarded with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Erlandson. After completing school, Sid worked for Roland S. Ludlam, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy. He also worked at the Reston Creamery and then returned home to farm with his Dad and brothers. On July 18, 1959 Sid married Dorothy Ludlam at the Reston United Church. They settled on the former George Cheyne farm. This union was blessed with four children: Shirley, Brenda, Barbara and Glenn. At one time Sid farmed as many as nine quarters of land with also cattle and pigs. In 1986 they semi-retired. An auction sale was held of machinery, the land was rented or sold and they added more turkeys and chickens to the farm. In 1993 Sid and Dorothy sold their home quarter and moved into Reston. They enjoyed their garden and yard. December 27, 2013 the Jago’s moved into the Alstone Lodge. Sid enjoyed going for walks and visiting with people he met on the street. One of Sid’s passion was music. He taught himself a few chords on the guitar and he soon learnt a new song by just listening to it on the radio. He always said it was a gift from God. Sid shared his musical talents by singing in the Reston United Church Choir, Barbershop Chorus, a local band with good friends John and Clarence, competing in Redvers Festival with his family and also entertaining for farewells and seniors in Reston and Virden. He also had the pleasure of singing at his niece’s wedding. Sports was another favorite past time. In his younger years, he was a goalie for Tilston and played ball with the Reston Grey’s. He also coached hockey with his brother George. Sid was a loyal Blue Jays fan. He rarely missed a game. Another sport he enjoyed was deer and duck hunting. He also had the opportunity of going up north one year for moose hunting. Sid also took great pleasure following the grandchildren’s sporting events and recently he enjoyed watching his great-nephews’ sports. Sid was also community minded volunteering with 4-H Beef Club, Scouts and Reston United Church, UGG and Reston Rink boards. Sid and Dorothy were so pleased to enjoy a few holidays taking them to Las Vegas, the Maritimes and a European and British Heritage tour. This included a long awaited visit with Sid’s cousins in Cornwall, England and Dorothy’s penpal and family in Watford, England. We gained many lasting friendships from these trips. Sid enjoyed family time. He enjoyed having supper and visiting with everyone. There was always a welcome and goodbye kiss or handshake. He also watched from the window to make sure we had gotten safely into our vehicles and gave one last big wave good-bye. Sid’s funeral was held on Monday, June 13, 2016 in Reston United Church conducted by Rev. Harvey Hurren with the Mennonite, Reston, Pipestone and Grand Clairiere choir. Ushers were Gary Watt and Ken Moore. The large attendance showed the high esteem in which Sid was held. He was buried in the family plot in Reston Cemetery. Lunch and a time of visitation was held in the lower hall of the church. Lunch was provided by Brenda Anderson and her helpers.
