ARNOLD: It is with profound sadness I announce the passing of my husband William (Bill) John Arnold, on June 20, 2016 at the Deloraine Health Centre. Bill was the son of George and Lena (Young) Arnold. Born September 14, 1930 in Deloraine, MB, and lived his entire life in his home town of which he took great pride. Bills younger days were filled with sports, goalie in hockey, catcher in baseball and the odd curling bonspiel. But his truly loved sport was racing Standardbreed Horses of which he owned, trained, raised and drove. Bill received all his education in Deloraine and started working after school & on weekend at the young age of 10 yrs. He worked hard all his life, adult jobs were with the Railway, Mb. Hydro, Town of Deloraine (as Town foreman), Mb. Water Serves Board (best water in Mb.)and Antler River S.D. (most beloved bus driver for many years). Bill was active for years in many clubs and organizations, Masons, Legion Br. # 83, Ag. Society. Mb. Great Western Harness Racing. He was on Town Council & Deputy Mayor for 12 yrs. And on many boards & committees especially the Cemetery even long after his terms on council were over. Bill always was friendly and outgoing with a great since of humour and was called Gabby by most people. He lived his life to the fullest with many great great friends in the present and many that have passed on before him. He leaves to mourn his wife of 46 yrs. Marie (Culbertson), sister Margaret Brigden, brother Alfred and his wife Muriel. In-laws Debra (Culbertson) Hainsworth and husband Glen, Betty Wall, Lorna (Culbertson) Biermann and husband Wally, plus many nieces and nephews and great friends. Bill was predeceased by his beloved son Billie (1970-1988), as well as parents, George & Lena. Sister Gertrude Truax and husband Earl. Sister Edith Arnold, brother George and wife Fran, brothers in-law Stan Brigden and Lloyd Wall. Sister-in-law Marge (Culbertson) Astle and husbands Bill Astle and Willie Hendry. Nephew Gordon Truax, nieces Cheryl (Truax) Denbow, and Heather Hendry, and ex-wife Bernice (Babcock) Duff. Also Maries parents Stan and Lilly Culbertson. Marie and the family wish to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care given by the devoted staff at the Deloraine Hospital. The love and compassion made Bill able to tolerate what he had to endure for his end of life situation. God Bless! In lieu of flowers, donations in Bills memory may be made to the Deloraine Cancer Care or charity of your choice. The Memorial Service was held on June 23, 2016 in the Deloraine & area United Church. Interment of ashes followed at Deloraine Winchester Cemetery. Smiths Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
