DUKE: June Duke passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the Westman Nursing Home in Virden, MB at 78 years of age. June is survived by her daughter: Sherry (JD), children Sydney and Denton; Norma and children Mike (Christine), Scott (Britt) and great granddaughter Adalyn. She is predeceased by her husband Bob, parents Tom and Helena Finney, and sisters Maxine and Betty-Lou. June was born June 23, 1938, the youngest of 3 daughters to Tom and Helena Finney. She moved at an early age to Elkhorn, MB where her parents ran the John Deere dealership. She met her future husband Bob while going to high school in Elkhorn and they married October 19, 1956. They farmed the family land in the Harmsworth district until 1979. Together they raised two daughters. June was very involved in the farming community, the Wallace United Church and St. Pauls United Church for many years. June was an avid curler and spent many hours at the Virden Curling Club and enjoying the bonspiel season - her favorite time of year. After moving to Virden in 1979, horse racing became a part of their lives and June also worked at the Virden Legion. Junes garden and yard were envied by many and she enjoyed hours outdoors working outside in the yard. A private service was held at Bennett Cemetery with immediate family on September 16, 2016. The family would like to sincerely thank both the Sherwood and Westman Nursing Homes for the care and compassion during June's stay. Memorial donations may be made to Prairie Mountain Health for WestMan Nursing Home (Virden) or to CancerCare Manitoba in memory of June.
