KRAHN: George Krahn, 88, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Rivers Personal Care Home, after suffering more than 20 years from Parkinsons disease. He was born on March 10, 1928, two miles north of Rivers, MB, less than a mile from where he will be buried. The family eventually settled on what became the family farm two miles east of Rivers. Most of Georges schooling took place in the Rivers area. He attended MCI, Gretna, MB and graduated from high school at Rosthern Junior College, SK. He was a lifelong learner, reading avidly for greater understanding in agriculture and business. Georges calling was to be a farmer, a steward of the land with a deep admiration for Gods creation. In order to sustain the farm, he also managed the B.A. Robinson electrical store in Brandon for 11 years. But the land had his heart. He always saw the farm as more than a vocation. It was to be a place of refuge and a means of blessing to his family and many others beyond. Improving the farm meant long days of hard work and sacrifice. An outgoing man, George was a member of the Canadian Seed Growers, the Canadian Charolais Association, and the Rivers Community Development Corporation. He was a trained consultant for Christian Financial Concepts. George was grateful to grow up with a strong Mennonite heritage. As an adult, he recognized his need for salvation and trusted in Christ for forgiveness of sin. He was a faithful member of McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, active with the Finance Committee as treasurer and served as a dedicated elder for nearly a decade. His lasting legacy was his reputation for diligent hard work, genuine integrity and widespread generosity. George is survived by his high school sweetheart, Anne, whom he married on October 7, 1950 and who remained faithfully by his side for 66 years until the moment of his death; son Rudy (Marena), Winnipeg; daughter Becky Magill (Keith), Indiana; daughter Eleanor Bertin (Mike), Stettler, AB; son Ted (Rhonda), Rivers; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sister Helen Klassen (Tony), Brandon, several in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Annie, his parents, Johan and Anna Krahn, his brothers John and Henry, and grandson Paul Bertin. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon, on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a time of reflection at 7:15 p.m. The Graveside Service will be held at the Rivers Mennonite Cemetery, Rivers, Manitoba on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon, at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the church.
