HILLIER: Peacefully with family at his side on Monday, October 31, 2016, at the Portage District General Hospital, Wallace Edwin Hillier of Portage la Prairie, formerly of Rivers Manitoba, beloved husband of Pat Hillier passed away at the age of 81 years. Wally was born on November 23, 1934, son of Daisy & Stan Hillier in Grand Falls, Newfoundland. When he was 8 years old they moved to Sydney, Nova Scotia where he completed his education. In 1953 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and Marvelle, France. In 1958 he married Pat Madder of Wheatland. They then moved to Nova Scotia, St Catharines, and back to Rivers in 1976. They resided there until 2012 when they moved to Portage la Prairie. Wally was a Boy Scout leader for 20 plus years, a member of the Rivers Lions Club (holding several different offices as well as on District Cabinet), Original board member of the Lions Village in Rivers, a member of the Portage Lions Club, member of the Rivers Masonic Lodge # 115 (Past master), Mt Sinai Chapter #8, Brandon Perceptery, Khartum Temple Winnipeg, Brandon and District Shrine Club, and Brandon and District Oriental Band (Past President), a member of the Royal Canadian Legion brand #75, and Charter President of Rivers Red Cross, board member of Rollingdale Enterprises. Predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers, Albert in Infancy and Art in 2016, he leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife of 58 years Pat, 3 daughters: Patti Hillier, Debbie (Dave) Citulsky all of Portage, Linda (Rod) Sterk of Calgary, one son: Tim (Eileen) Hillier of Saskatoon, five grandchildren: Angelynn (Riley) Nicholls, David Jr (Stephanie) Citulsky, Thomias Huhn, Tyne (Taylor) Beaudoin, Tyler (Ashley) Huhn, 8 Great Grandchildren; Matthew & Nathan Nicholls, Lucas, Danica, Emma Citulsky, Damian, Liam & Bentley Huhn, Also surviving are his brothers; Bernie (Shirley) of Sydney, N.S., Cecil (Ruby), Albert (Marlene) of London, Ontario, Clayton (Roni) of St Catharines, 2 sisters; Hazel (T.J.) Nunnenmacher of Lagoon City, Ontario and Sharon (Fred) Dewberry of St Catharines, Ontario, sister in law Jean Hillier of Trenton, Ontario, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A celebration of Wallys life will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie, on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:00 pm, with the Reverend Glenna Beauchamp officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date.
