STEWART: Jean Iola Stewart (nee Carr), 88 years of age, of Birtle, Manitoba passed away on December 31, 2016. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 2pm at St. George’s Anglican Church, Birtle, Manitoba with Reverend Elaine Dixon/Deacon, officiating. Luncheon followed the funeral Service in the St. George’s Parish Hall. Family Internment will follow at the Foxwarren Cemetery. Arrangements are by Braendle and Bruce, Russell, Manitoba. Jean was born in Russell, Manitoba to Lorna and Percy Carr on November 2, 1928. She was welcomed home in Foxwarren by older sister Aileen Lenore. She went to school and graduated from the Foxwarren School. She married John Findlay Stewart (J.F.) on June 7, 1949 in Foxwarren, Manitoba. Jean’s main job was a homemaker and helper on her and J.F.’s mixed farm located south east of Birtle, Manitoba. She took great pride in her large vegetable and flower gardens, as well as, raising chickens and turkeys. Jean also was very involved in the St. George’s Anglican parish. Her roles included: Active parishioner, Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir, Alter Guild, ladies ACW and a Camp helper at the Anglican Church camp in Onanole. Jean and J.F. welcomed three daughters into their lives starting with Marilyn Georgina, born June 6, 1953, then Myrnalee Joyce, born on May 26, 1955 and Melanie Jacolyn born on December 24, 1963. The family farm always had an assortment of animals: dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and even goats, all of which Jean always enjoyed. Jean was very involved in her daughters’ lives which included: helping with school projects and pageants; coaching baseball teams; driving and watching the girls’ many extracurricular activities such as piano lessons, Junior Axillary, 4-H, skating/ballet classes and performances. Jean continued to attend and support her grandchildren and great grandchildren with their various activities as well. Jean and J.F. caught the travel bug on their first trip to Scotland. Jean’s mother Lorna and daughters gave them a trip to Scotland for their 25th wedding anniversary. From there they had the opportunity to travel to many other destination. A couple of very memorable trips they were able to take were: a trip to Disney world with daughter Myrnalee, Kelly, Janelle and Jiliane, as well as, driving to Alaska with daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Wayne. After leaving their farm they moved to a home in Birtle. They then moved to a suite at Riverheights Terrace in Brandon, Manitoba overlooking the farm land to the west of Brandon. After sadly losing J.F., Jean moved into Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba. She loved nothing more than a visit from one of her family members, always wanting them to stay longer. Jean is preceded by her loving husband J. F. and daughter Myrnalee. Her parents Lorna and Percy Carr, Sister Eileen McFarland (nee Carr); Sister-in-laws Dorothy Stewart (nee Ellis); Katherine Harrison (nee Stewart); Irene Stewart (nee Holt); Brother-in-laws Alf McFarland; Ronald Stewart; Art Harrison; Al Gill and Reg Berry. Jean is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughters Marilyn (Wayne) Hickman of Russell, Manitoba; Melanie (Blake) Stephens of Brandon, Manitoba and Son-in-law Kelly Grainger of Beulah, Manitoba. Grandchildren Jennifer (Kevin) Lyttle, Troy (Mattie) Hickman, Brad (Pam) Hickman; Janelle (Ted) Koroscil, Jiliane (John) Bruce; Jackson Stephens and Matthew Stephens. Great Grandchildren: Cassidy Lyttle; Hogan Hickman, Hayes Hickman, Hardy Hickman; Adrie Hickman, Drew Hickman; Olivia Koroscil, Lincoln Koroscil, Jarvis Koroscil; William Bruce and Andrew Bruce. Also sister-in-law Betty Gill (nee Stewart) and Molly Berry (nee Stewart), as well as, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and family friends. Pallbearers will be Jean’s Grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jean’s Great Grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George’s Church, Birtle, Manitoba or the Birtle District Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Birtle, Manitoba. The family of Jean wishes to extend our sincere thank-you to the staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba. Marilyn and Melanie really appreciate the last few weeks we spent with mom and all of you. Your kindness and thoughtfulness with always stay with us. Also a huge thank you to our families and many friends for all your support through visits, phone calls, text/email messages, flowers and food, everything was greatly appreciated. A special thank you to Rev. Elaine Dixon/Deacon, Mrs. Edmundson, the choir, the Anglican Church Ladies for lunch and the staff at Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service. Mom would have been very grateful for the outpouring of support our families are receiving.“Mom, you are the thread that is woven through this Quilt we call Family.”
