McLEAN: Jean Isabelle McLean (Dow). It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Isabelle McLean on January 27, 2017, at the age of 90 years, at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home. Jean was born in Minnedosa on February 16, 1926 and was the youngest daughter of John and Charlotte Dow. She was raised in Bethany, MB and in her later teens moved to Minnedosa where she worked in the Geneva Tea Room. It was in Minnedosa that Jean met a handsome young sailor just returned from service in the Navy, and her life would be changed forever. She fell in love and married George Charles McLean on Sept. 27, 1946. After a short time living in Brandon, George and Jean bought a farm just south of Rapid City, MB. It was here that they raised their family of three children. In 1979 they sold the farm and moved to Minnedosa, where they lived for 38 years. Jean was predeceased by her parents, her eldest son Harold (April 2015) her three brothers: Roy (Betty), Norman (Grace) and Campbell (Amanda); six sisters: Mildred (Bill Attwood), Melles (Bill Vann), Alma (John McDonald), Blanche (Earl Ritchie) and Bernice (Lloyd McTavish); two half sisters Annie and Laura; parents-in-law Duncan and Alma McLean; brothers-in-law Harvey Bertram and Olie McLean (Margaret) and sister -in-law Mary McLean. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years George, daughter -in-law Irène, son Craig (Sheila) and daughter Janice (Barry Meadows). She will be missed by her grandchildren: Chantelle (Duayne Coss), Kristian (Guylene), Stephanie, Matthew, Kyle, Pamela (Jason Campbell), Shauna (Tom Cornwall) and Dean Meadows (Erin Green); her 10 great grandchildren: Eric and Ella Coss, Amélie, Justin and Derrick McLean, Carson Cornwall, Kayla and Taylor Campbell, Natalie and Olivia Meadows. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Albert McLean, sister-in-law Bernice Bertram (Eric Stanzelite) and many nieces and nephews. Jean’s greatest joy was raising her family and making a loving home for her husband George. She was a wonderful cook and you were always welcome in her home for a delicious meal. Music was a very important part of Jean’s life and she loved to dance, especially if George was playing his violin. Jean’s family would like to thank the staff at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home for the gentle and loving care they provided to mom for the past 5 1/2 years. Mom—we will love you forever and miss you always. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in the Minnedosa United Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. Arrangements in care of Minnedosa Funeral Service. 1-204-867-3868.
