FARQUHAR: James Dean Farquhar of Birtle, MB. passed away January 15th, 2017 in the Russell Hospital, at the age of 87 years. After spending a quiet day visiting with his family, he peacefully passed away with his grandson by his side. He was predeceased by his brother William (Bill) in 1972, his father Arthur, 1973 and his mother, Helen in 1984. Left to mourn are his wife Beryl, sons Kenneth (Pat), Glenn (Barb), grandchildren, Keith, Katie, Calum (Cynthia), Ethan and great grandson, Maximus, brother Fred (Ethel), sister-in-law Margaret and many nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Birtle on November 29, 1929. He spent his young years with his parents and brothers on the family farm. Jim married his wife Beryl (nee Hanna) on July 5, 1957 with whom he spent the next 59 ? years. He was a successful mixed grain, cattle and hog farmer. With his son, Ken he continued to farm until the age of 82. Jim was always involved in the community having served on the Pool Elevator Board, Manitoba Hog Marketing Board, Birtle Arena Board, Birtle United Church Board, Birtle Lions Club and the Birtle Drop In Board. In later years, he loved the time he spent on the golf course, the Birtle Drop In, fishing, travelling and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will take place Friday, July 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Birtle United Church with Reverend Elaine Dixon officiating. His ever-present smile and gentle nature will be missed by all.
