HAIGHT: Thelma Beryl Haight (Lowe). On April 2nd, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer, Thelma passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre at Brandon Regional Health Centre with son Gerald, and grandchildren Brad and Lindsay, by her side. Thelma was taken from us at the age of 87 years old. Left to mourn her passing are son Gerald, grandson Brad, granddaughter-in-law April, their children Callie and James; granddaughter Lindsay, and her children Lukas and Elena; sisters Ruth Mooney and Margaret Hayden; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Thelma was predeceased by her parents Percival and Gwendolyn Lowe, husband Derwin, son Gary, daughter-in-law Debbie (Gerald), sisters Doreen and Dorothy, brother-in-laws Harold Bridges (Doreen), Verne Mooney (Ruth), Hugh Robertson (Dorothy), and Bill Hayden (Margaret), and brother and sister in law Delmer and Elaine Haight. Thelma was born on May 17, 1929 in Crystal City, MB, and grew up and lived in the Mather District. Thelma married Derwin in 1950, farmed northeast of Cartwright, and raised two sons Gary and Gerald. In 1988 Derwin and Thelma purchased a home and moved to Cartwright, while Derwin continued to farm. In the summer months Thelma could be found working in the garden or tending to her flowers in one of her many flower beds. In the winter months Thelma and Derwin enjoyed traveling across the country to many Briers and over the years made many lifelong friends with whom Thelma kept in touch with. During these trips they would always come across ex-Cartwrighters, with whom they would enjoy a visit with. Thelmas love in life was family and friends and if somebody dropped in unannounced, the coffee pot was on and the dainties were served. She loved children and would gladly look after anybodys kids on short notice. Family visits were a pleasure for her when Gerald, Debbie, Brad, and Lindsay came for summer holidays. Thelma had great neighbours who helped her out with rides uptown, rides to church, yard work, or drop in visits just to make sure she was okay. To Ruth Mooney, Mary Livingstone and family, Dale Lamblez, Ronnie Rattie, Donna Wilm, the late Ruthie Mullin, and many others too numerous to mention, we thank you. Later in life Thelma joined the Legion and enjoyed the outings at Legion functions, meetings, and luncheons. In February 2015 Thelma relocated to Victoria Landing in Brandon, MB where she could be closer to Gerald and Lindsay in Brandon, and Brad in Winnipeg, MB. Thelma enjoyed many Sunday dinners with Lindsay and Gerald and always looked forward to visits from Brad, April, and family. Thelma made many friends at Victoria Landing and also re-connected with other friends whom she had known for years. She had a very active social life. Thelma was such a gentle, caring, and humble person, and she touched many hearts. She was always willing to give advice, guidance, or her opinion when asked. She helped many people on their journeys through life. While in hospital, Thelma had many family and friends stop in to say hello. No matter how she felt she would always have a smile for them and enjoy the visit. The immediate family would like to thank all the people who visited, called, sent messages, and sent flowers; and a special thanks to Ruth Mooney, Mary Livingstone and family, and Beth Clark for all their support. Thank you to the Cancer Care staff, and nursing staff on the Palliative Unit for their wonderful care of our loving Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma during her treatment and stay at the hospital. A service will be held Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church with Minister Beth Clark officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.Messages of condolencemay be made online at www.wheatlandfs.com Wheatland Funeral Service(204) 825-2848
