GENUNG: On Wednesday April 5, 2017, with her family by her side, Marlene Catherine Genung passed away at the age of 78 at the Minnedosa Hospital after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Marlene was born in Hamiota on May 21, 1938 to Leonard and Gladys Burt. After finishing school, Marlene married Donald Murray Genung on October 6, 1956. Together they raised their 4 children. Marlene worked at MTS for many years as an operator, and during her time, created many lifelong friendships. Marlene also enjoyed seeing different places, volunteering within the community, visiting with friends and family, and spending time with her grandchildren. The church was a very important part of Marlene's life. Marlene gave much of her spare time to the church, and she will be missed by many. Marlene is survived by, and will be missed by her children, Donald, Sherrie (Clark), Cathy (Chris), Maxine (Cam), her 10 grandchildren, and soon to be 25 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her brothers Jack (Wendy) and Brian (Margaret), her sisters Mavis (Jim) and Linda (Syl), her brother-in-laws Bob (Wilma), Brian (Brenda), Jack, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Marlene was predeceased by her husband Murray on December 14, 2013, Her parents Leonard and Gladys Burt, her mother and father-in-law Dot and Maurice Genung, and her sister-in-law Marjorie. Marlene's celebration of life was held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Minnedosa United Church. Marlene was laid to rest at the Basswood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Minnedosa United Church or the Minnedosa Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Minnedosa Funeral Service in care of arrangements 1-204 867-3868.
