JANZ: Margaret (Margie) Jean (nee Witt) – born December 26, 1920 to William and Martha Witt of Hartney. Margie took all her schooling in Hartney. From 1939 to 1940 she attended Brandon Normal School and taught for six years. She joined the Bank of Montreal at Hartney July 26, 1946 – October 31, 1947. Margie married Mark Englert Janz (Mannie) of Souris on November 25, 1947 at St. Augustine’s Church in Brandon. On September 27, 1949 they welcomed daughter Marilyn Jean, and on January 9, 1955 a son David Mark. Margie once again went back to teaching Kindergarten in Souris from 1964-1967. Margie and Mannie spent 36 years farming which included dairy and large numbers of roasting chickens – which they would process at the farm every fall for a loyal following of customers. On October 15th, 1983 – Lynn and Peter Janz purchased the farm and Mark & Mannie moved to 199 Powell Crescent in Souris. Mannie passed away December 19, 1991. Margie moved to Victoria Park Lodge on October 23, 2003 where she resided until she choose to enter into Souris Personal Care in 2014. Margie was very active in the community. She president of Botany Friendship Club, president of St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s Organization, convened several Smorgs and banquets for the church. She convened Fair Board Meals for 11 years and was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Mary’s Church for 11 years. She was a life member of the Hillcrest Museum; Treasurer for the Drop In Centre for 5 years; She worked with Souris Donor’s Choice for many years; she was a member of the Town Beautification Committee and a Auxiliary member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #60; Margie was proud to have sponsored 9 children through World Vision – receiving a Certificate of appreciation from the Christian Blind Mission International. One of her greatest pleasures was growing flowers and taking them to patients in the hospital. Mark and Margie were avid bridge, “500”, crib and shuffleboard players. They enjoyed several bus tours, cruises, harness racing and dancing. Margie was instrumental in getting the late Lloyd Janz butterfly and moth collections to the Souris Hillcrest Museum. Margie is survived by daughter Marilyn Forsyth and Bob Wilson; and son David and daughter in law Gail and their children Ashley, Amanda and Mark. Also surviving are 33 nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by her husband Mannie of 44 years, her parents, her sister Aileen McNabb of Calgary, her brother and sister in law Gordon and Irene Witt of Hartney, her in laws Mark W and Edith Janz as well as Mannie’s siblings John and Marnie Janz; Lloyd and Vi, and Mary Janz; Donald & Peggy Janz; Katherine (Tiny) and Al Evans; Judy and Gordon Hale; Doug & Isabell Janz; Turney & Myrtle Janz; and Bob & Sheila Janz. Many thanks to Dr. Cram for all his care and kindness and the staff at Souris Personal Care. Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Souris on Monday, April 17, 2017 with private family interment in the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Janz, Neil Janz, Randy Janz, Dennis Janz, Gerry Williams and Wayne Janz. In memory of Margie, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
