COMBS: Mary Isobel Combs passed away peacefully March 22, 2017 at the Delwynda Court Personal Care Home in Deloraine. Isobel was born September 10, 1922 on the family farm in the Melgund district, between Hartney and Lauder. She was the only child born to Albert and Mary (Morrison) Drummond. Isobel received her early education at Melgund School and completed her high school at Elgin. Isobel went on to Normal School teachers college in Winnipeg and after graduating came back to her roots to teach at Grand Bend, Melgund, Griswold, Dand and Thirlstane Schools. It was when she taught at Thirlstane and boarded with the Combs family that she met the love of her life, Lloyd Combs. Isobel and Lloyd were married November 20,1954 and took up residence on the Combs farm where they raised their three boys. Isobel and Lloyd retired to town in 1989 where Isobel continued her involvement with her lifelong interests; United Church Women, Deloraine Health Auxiliary, and Order of the Eastern Star. Isobel did some traveling in her retirement. She saw both Canadian east and west coasts. She cruised to Alaska, Hawaii, and through the Panama Canal. Isobel experienced New Orleans and also accompanied family for several trips to Las Vegas. After Lloyds passing in 2006 Isobel moved to Border Hills Housing Co-op where she resided until December 2016. Isobel was predeceased by her parents Albert and Mary Drummond, her husband Lloyd Combs, father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Nellie Combs, brothers-in-law Ken Combs, Herb Combs, Al McKenzie; sisters-in-law Margaret Combs, Kathleen (Combs) McKenzie, and infant great granddaughter Brienna Combs. Isobel is survived by her three sons Murray, Clark, John and their families. Murray and Karen and their family Lauren (boyfriend Jessie), Nicolas, and Joshua. Clark and Shannon and their family Kyle (Teresa) and great grandson Jaxen, Ryan (Chloe), and Jillian (boyfriend Kyle). John and April and their family Cassandra (boyfriend Dan). A memorial reception was held April 1st at the Mountview Center where Isobel spent many enjoyable hours playing cards with her friends. Donations in memory of Isobel may be made to the Deloraine Mountview Center or to a charity of choice Grieve not for me.Remember the good times, the laughter, the song and the great life lived.
