CHOY: Judy Choy, July 17, 1938-April 17, 2017. It is with deep sadness and loving memories that we announce the passing of Judy Choy on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the age of 78 years at the Hamiota Health Centre. Judy is survived by her loving husband Allen; her sons, Kevin (Sherri Briggs) of Shoal Lake, Henry of Strathclair, Kelly (Sharon) of Whitehorse, Douglas of Toronto and David (Yeehan) of Binscarth; her grandchildren, Jordan, Su-Jean, Kelvin, Jim, Gaman and Tia; and numerous other relatives and friends. Judy was predeceased by her son Gordon (1975) and granddaughter Su-Yen (2001). Judy was born in Shuibo, Toishan, Guangdong, China on July 17, 1938. After a brief stay in Hong Kong and Macau, Judy came to Strathclair, Manitoba in 1958 to marry Allen Choy. Allen and Judy started businesses and a family as new immigrants to Canada in Western Manitoba. Family brought Judy her greatest joy. She dedicated herself to raising a family as best as she could. She and Allen would eventually have six boys and seven grandchildren. Unselfishly, Judy gave everything to her family. Her husband and family will forever be grateful for her love and generosity. For 59 years, Judy worked tremendously hard providing thousands of delicious meals for her customers in their family restaurant. Often her work days were well over 12 hours with immense preparation and planning. In addition to the regular restaurant business, she cooked for many celebrations including birthdays, New Year’s, Chinese New Year’s, Christmas meals for the down and out, and early morning breakfasts for the Strathclair Fair and Strathclair Blues. Judy was greatly loved in the community. Many customers were regular faces and their friendly greetings and their random acts of kindness over the years gave Judy so much pleasure! A graveside funeral service was on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the Strathclair Cemetery. Rae’s Funeral Service of Shoal Lake and Erickson was in care of arrangements. Judy will be profoundly missed by her family, friends and community.
