LOWDON: Peacefully on October 5th, 2017, Edward Raymond Lowdon entered into eternal rest, at Virden hospital. Ed was 87 years of age. Eds memory will be cherished by his wife Jean, son Keith (Lori), daughter Tammy (Wayne) and grandchildren Reid Lowdon, Jaid Lowdon and Matt Hersack. Other survivors include his brother Bill (Mary), sisters-in-law Kay Lowdon, Lois Lowdon, Betty Lowdon and Ursula Lowdon, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents Robert and Isabel, sisters Rae (Ted), Bell (Gordon), brothers Tommy (Margaret), Johnny (Kay), Bob (Lois), Les (Betty), Ken (Doris and Lois), Alfie (Ursula) and his beloved daughter Rhonda. Ed was born and raised in the Goodlands area and had resided in Virden since 1955. Ed had an extensive career in the oilfield industry. He was employed with Dowell Canada, Copperhead and Tundra Oil and Gas. Ed retired in the mid 90s and continued to maintain close connections with former co-workers always attending the annual Tundra Christmas party. Ed also co-owned and operated the Virden Laundromat for many years. Travel was always important to Ed. He ensured that the family had an annual vacation. Many memories were created with visits to several US attractions as well as many popular Canadian destinations. During retirement Ed and Jean visited England and enjoyed being snow birds in Arizona and Nevada each winter for many years. Ed had a passion for fishing and enjoyed numerous excursions with his fishing buddies. His grandchildren have many happy memories of fishing with Grandpa. Ed also was the best at spinning intriguing yarns about events that occurred on those fishing trips. Gardening was another great past time for Ed. He took great pride in his yard and flowers and particularly took pleasure in carefully manicuring his daughter Rhondas gravesite. Ed was a member of the Elks Lodge for several years and served as a volunteer for the annual memory tree fundraiser. Ed faced lifes challenges with dignity and grace. Even in the midst of compromised health and impaired vision, his complaints were negligible. His devotion and loyalty to his family, particularly to his wife Jean was truly exemplary. A celebration of life was held on October 12th at Carscadden Funeral Home, Virden, MB, Pastor Wayne Unger officiated. Pallbearers were Paul Rocan, Jay Lowdon, Brian Lowdon, Bud Hay and grandsons Reid Lowdon and Matt Hersack. Eds daughter Tammy presented a touching Powerpoint presentation on his life. Special thanks to Larry Gabrielle, Wayne and Matt Hersack, Tom and Tony Schneider, Bud and Connie Hay, Sandra Unger and Keith Lowdon for performing some of Eds favorite music during the funeral service. A private interment was held at Virden Cemetery.
