CROSS: Donald Archibald “Archie”, September 13, 1934- October 17, 2017. Archie was the 4th of seven children born to parents John George Stanley Cross “ JGS” and Marion McIntosh Cross. He was predeceased by his two brothers Stan in December 2014, and Joe in March 2017. Surviving siblings are Jean (Earle-deceased) Farley of Brandon, Winnie (Bill, deceased) Campbell of Calgary, John (Dorothy) Cross of Griswold, and Evans (Candace) Cross of Brandon, and sister-inlaw Iris and Lorna both of Griswold. Archie was born in Woodrow Saskatchewan. When he was 2 years of age the family relocated to the big house on 21 highway previously known as the Hanna residence. They were a farming family and made Griswold their home for school, work, and community. Archie worked on the good roads in the late 50’s, and then returned to farming life with brothers Stan and Joe. In 1960 he met Kathleen Davreux from Hartney and they were married in April 1965. Kay and Archie made their home in Griswold where they raised their children Dwayne, Dianne, and Darlene. Those days in Griswold have many fond memories for the entire family as the little town was alive with all sorts of young families and kids to play with. The adults had fun too! Archie had a great sense of humour and this was evident in his creative nicknames for family and friends. He loved to visit with people and sitting around the table was where a lot of the stories and jokes were told. He had a kind heart and besides his family, he had a few loves in his life. He loved hockey night in Canada, especially his TML’s. He loved his Brandon Sun and read it religiously while sitting in his “ Archie Bunker” chair. He loved all animals, but had a special place in his heart for “Sidney”, his last dog. He also enjoyed the odd Molsen’s beverage along with friends at “The Office.” Over the years he played hockey, curled, hunted, and fished down by the river. In 2010, failing health required a move for Archie to the Sherwood Home in Virden and he lived there for 5 years with wonderful care provided to him. When his health needs increased, he moved to the Westman Nursing Home in July 2015. The very capable and kind staff of both care homes was appreciated by Archie and his family. With his good sense of humour, he loved to tease the staff as often as he was able. Kay was a faithful visitor and took Archie out for drives and outings when he was able to go. Archie is lovingly remembered by his immediate family, wife Kay, son Dwayne (Christine) Cross and their children Braden, Teagan, and Derek Cross; Dianne (Rob) Wooldridge and their daughters Alexa (Jordan Park) and Mackenzie Wooldridge; Darlene (Will) McGriff and sons Keon and Matthew. Also mourning the loss of Archie are many nieces, nephews, and in laws. Friends from the community of Griswold have always held a dear spot in the Cross family hearts and they too will mourn the loss of a long time community member.
