PATTERSON: Earl Robert, October 18, 1926 - January 20, 2018. A kind and gentle soul passed away peacefully at Boissevain Health Centre January 20th after a long and blessed life. Earl was born in Boissevain and grew up on the family farm. Earls love of music and dancing led him to the Minto dance hall where he met his wife of 61 years, Doreen Wood. They made many life long friends through dancing and being involved with their church family at Saint Pauls United Church. Earl loved being a farmer and took great pride in looking across a ripe wheat field swaying in the breeze. He loved spending time with his children during late night combine runs and sitting quietly with them in the field while enjoying his lunch. Earl took great joy curling with his brother Murray and in later years with his sons Greg and Eric. He was an ardent supporter of his childrens and grandchildrens activities and was always proud of each and every one of them. Earl joined the camera club and through his photography showed his natural gift of capturing the beauty of the world around him. Earls passion for model railroading sprang from his boyhood fascination with trains. Building his railroad from scratch gave him endless hours of entertainment but his greatest joy was sharing his stories with people from all over the world. He created replicas, in amazing detail, of places that were near and dear to him. Earl was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Bessie and his brother/best friend Murray. He is survived by his loving wife Doreen, children: Greg (Lysa), Gloria (Joe), Gwen (Lee), Eric (Karen); grandchildren: Jeri (Noel), Jill, Megan, Hanna, Ryan, Emma, Justin, Carter and Lena; great-grandchildren: Ethan and Lucas; and his loving sisters Eva and Eleanor. A sincere thank you to Dr. Nell, the staff of Boissevain Health Centre and the staff of Westview Lodge for your care and compassion. There will be a Celebration of Life for Earl on Wednesday, January 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Boissevain St. Pauls United Church. Donations in memory of Earl can be made to The Boissevain Health Centre Palliative Care Fund or The Boissevain Health Centre Auxiliary.Messages of condolencemay be made online at www.wheatlandfs.comWheatland Funeral Service(204) 523-7791
