MERCKX: Florman Merckx of Brandon, beloved husband of the late Polly, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Valleyview Care Centre at the age of 93 years. Florman was born December 25, 1924 in Fork River, MB, son of Emil and Hazel Merckx. The younger of two boys, he lived in Fork River with his family until they moved to the Deloraine area to be closer to their Belgium relations and farm. Eventually the family bought a farm and moved to Boissevain. In the fall of 1940, he met Polly at a school dance and within three years they were married. They had three sons, who have predeceased him; two died in infancy. Florman and Polly moved to Brandon in 1965, however, they continued to farm in Boissevain until the mid 1980s; eventually retiring in Brandon. Florman loved to travel and always up for a new adventure. He was active in the Knights of Columbus at St. Augustines parish and volunteered his time and skill for any building projects large or small. He especially enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren and great grandchildren. Florman was predeceased by his wife Polly, his son, Clarence, in 1980 and by his two infant sons. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Lisa (Brian) of Brandon, MB; Dean (Sherrie) of Beresford, MB; Todd (Heather) of Boissevain, MB and by seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters-in-law: Sophie, Elaine, Dorothy and as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery.
