CHESTER: Velma Mary Chester (nee Addison) August 20, 1928 - March 8, 2018. Reverend Marianne Olfrey officiated at a service held in Reston United Church to honour the life of Velma Chester on March 14, 2018. Cathy Williamson was soloist. Rylee and Connor Martin were urn bearers. Interment was in Reston Cemetery. Velma was born on the family farm near Wellwood, MB to Jack and Jean Addison. She was baptized by Tommy Douglas. Growing up she also lived at Roseland, Virden and Brandon. She graduated from St. Michael's Academy. Velma graduated as a registered nurse from St. Boniface hospital in 1950. She nursed at Souris for 2 years. Then at Reston after she married Oliver Wilfred Chester June 27, 1953. Velma was always active in her community. She belonged to the Hospital Aid, Legion Auxiliary, UCW, was a 4-H leader, a figure skating club president, supported a library coming to Reston and curled in local bonspiels. Mom loved to read, a gift she has passed on to all her children and grandchildren. She loved Book Club and her friends there. Bingo was a passion and she loved to play cards, especially bridge. Velma was preceded by siblings Cecilia McRae, Bill Addison, Nora Linstead, Roy Addison, Jean Clark, Joyce Simpson and infant sister Mary. She is lovingly remembered by daughter Gail Sawchuk (Boniface) of Mountain Road, MB, son Bill Chester (Debbie) of Crapaud, PEI and daughter Beryl Chester of Calgary, AB. She leaves grandchildren, Richard Maddess, Erica Martin (Sean), and Amber Marcoux (Dion). Great-grandchildren Haley, Sarah, and Riane Maddess, Rylee and Connor Martin, Arianna and Brandon Loogman, and Maddison and Macklin Marcoux. She leaves many nieces and nephews who were all so important to her. Velma spent the last 4 years of her life in the Willow View Personal Care Home. She learned to enjoy life in this her last home, always telling everyone how good the staff were to her. Donations may be made in her honour to the Willowview Care Home.
