WILSON: Robert Osborne Wilson (RO, Bob) November 4,1925-July 21, 2018, beloved husband of the late Irene Wilson, passed away at his room in Fairview Personal Care Home after a brief illness. RO was the eldest son of John and Ruth Wilson and was born on the King Farm near McConnell on November 4, 1925. He received his education at several different Manitoba schools as his father was a teacher. He spent many summers vacations with his grandmother King and Uncle Bob King on the King Farm where he especially enjoyed horseback riding. During the war years 1944-45 both Bob and his father J.O. Wilson were stationed in England with the R.C.A.F. After attending the U. of M. for agriculture Bob returned to farm NW 1-15-23 1 mile south of McConnell in 1946 and began farming a quarter section with no buildings but he built as needed and by 1980 was farming 1 1/4 sections of land growing grain and raising pigs. He was also involved in bee keeping, van driving, welding and the operation of the Hamiota Theatre. In the fall of 1951 Bob married Irene Fraser of Hamiota. They were together for nearly 55 years when Irene passed away. Together they raised 3 sons and 1 daughter. Neil Osborne, Vaughn Kerr, Hugh Fraser, and Katherine Joan. These children received their education at McConnell and Hamiota schools. R.O. and Irene supported their childrens interests in music, sports, and education. Bob was often called upon to coach ball, hockey, skating or help with 4-H as the kids were growing. He coached an all girls hockey team at McConnell rink at one time. Bob served the public on school and church boards for various terms and was a director for Pool Elevators and Co-op. The Wilson family all enjoyed their cabin at Shoal Lake in the summer and were avid water skiers. Bob even waterskied into his 70s. He and his son Vaughn obtained their pilots licence and enjoyed flying the small plane. In 1981 Bob and Irene sold the farm and moved to an acreage southwest of Kenton. Every year they would spend 4 winter months in their trailer located in Weslaco TX. Bob really enjoyed the heat down south and they were both involved in various activities especially dancing. Their summers were spent with the grandchildren sea dooing, watching ball games, camping with their trailer at various lakes. Bob continued to dance and was doing so just a month ago. From Kenton he and Irene moved to Casa Oakes until Irene passed away and then he moved to Lions Manor and finally to Fairview Personal Care Home. Bob leaves to mourn his passing his four children: Neil (Karen) Winnipeg, Vaughn (Francis) Kenton, Hugh (Lori) Brandon, Kathy (Neil) Graham Brandon. Four grandchildren Henry (Nicole) Wilson Kenton, Britta (Scott) King Lenore, Kirk (Bobbi) Graham Brandon, Rebecca (Brock) See Glasgow, Montana. Five great grandchildren Harmony, Eveline, Gloria Wilson, Leo and Scarlett King. Bobs interest in education (he was a life long learner) in so many various areas sets a wonderful example for his children and grandchildren as can be seen in their various pursuits in life. The family would like to thank the staff at Fairview for their care and compassion while Bob was a resident there.
