BERRY-HILL: Mary Russel. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Russel Berry-Hill at Westview Place South, Penticton, BC on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the age of 103 years. Mary was born in Regina, SK and attended school in Ryerson, SK. Over the years she resided in Toronto, ON, Cromer, Virden and Brandon, MB and Penticton, BC. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Margaret Renwick, first husband Holland ("Holly") Berry, her third son Douglas Berry and second husband Elmer Hill, daughter-in-law Esther, sister Vera (Jim) Murray and brothers Tom (Marguerite) and George (Lillian) Renwick. She and Holly were married in Toronto in 1937. In 1941 they moved to Cromer where they lived for 15 years before moving to Virden and then to Brandon. Mary was an active member of the United Church and a Life Member of the Royal Purple, Naomi Rebecca Lodge #6 IOOF in Brandon where she was a Past Noble Grand. She was well known for her organizational ability and held many executive positions in various organizations. She loved dancing, bowling, playing cards, golfing and curling. In 2001 she moved to Penticton and married her second husband Elmer. They took numerous trips and were actively involved in the Penticton Senior Centre and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Prior to moving to Westview Place, Mary lived in Charles Manor for over 11 years. Mary is survived by her sons Holland (Gwenneth) of Calgary, Don (Joan) of Brandon, Bryon of Penticton, daughter Joan (Peter Tamblyn) of Calgary and daughter-in-law Dianne Laframboise of Calgary, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary took a keen interest in helping others and while in Brandon was a Hospital Sitter for many years. She had a positive outlook on life which was a benefit not only to her family but also to those around her. She seldom complained even when life was difficult. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Virden Cemetery beside her first husband Holly.
