HYDE: Irene Stella Hyde, age 89 years, passed away at Rideau Personal Care Home on Monday November 5th, 2018. Irene was predeceased by husband of 54 years, Albert Hyde, her parents Mary and Jim Carradice of Elkhorn, MB where she was born, sisters Jean (Bruce) Franklin, Mary (John) Canart, Berniece (Bill) Mitchell, Helen Snell, Ina (Dave) Hartley and brother Bob Carradice. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Gordon (Gail), grandsons David (Cyndi), great-grandsons Evan and Nolan and Shaun (Monica); daughter Brenda, grandchildren Zeb and Jeanette; son David (Sheri), grandchildren Dustin and Nicole (Matt), great-grandson Eldred. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Moira Carradice and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She is survived by sister-in-law Charlotte Dickson and many nieces and nephews on Alberts side also. Irene was born and raised on a farm in the Elkhorn area, attending and graduating grade 12 from the Mosgiel School. She spoke fondly of time on the farm, riding horseback to school, listening to the hockey games over radio and enjoying farm work with her only brother Bob. Irene moved to Brandon in 1948 where she was hired to be a bookkeeper at Cumming and Dobie alongside her long-time friend Jean Kettles. She made many friends but none as special as her husband Albert Hyde, the man she loved and cherished for 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2006. Together they enjoyed many dances, worked closely together through both a gravel and long-haul trucking business as well as a Pic a Pop business. She spent many nights sewing tarps with Albert for the trucks and doing the bookkeeping during the day while at the same time attending to the Pic A Pop Store. She travelled as far as Prince Edward Island, California and over the Alaskan Highway to Whitehorse with Albert while he was hauling long distance. Irene also worked as a bookkeeper for Pepsi Cola for a short time and while Alberts trucking business took them to Kenora, Ontario in 1985 to 1999 she worked as a clerk and bookkeeper at The Met, Woolworths and a Drugstore. Irene enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing and riding horses. Irene and Albert started a family in Brandon in 1956 and from thereon forward spent time cheering all their children through their many activities, mainly baseball, hockey and pony club. Irene helped coach the girls and not only drove her own kids but always had a car full kids heading to games, tournaments and horse shows. Irene also taught Sunday School at Knox United church when her children were young. Family came first and there were many picnics in the Carberry sandhills as well as many trips to the Elkhorn and Carberry area to enjoy family Christmases and visits. Camping wasnt her favorite after a trip to the White shell where she was chased by a bear back to her tent however, she did enjoy blueberry picking in Kenora years later. When Irene became a grandmother, she was in her glory and loved each grandchild dearly. Each grandchild and great grandchild brought happiness to her and they each have special memories of time spent together. Irene once again enjoyed watching soccer, baseball, hockey, basketball and bowling as her grandchildren grew to be adults. Irene was so proud of all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her face would absolutely light up when she saw any of her family or heard their voice on the other end of the phone. Irenes spirit will continue to be present in the lives of her family and she will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctor and staff on the west wing at Rideau Park Personal Care Home where she spent the last year of her life.
