GAUKEL: Fred Gaukel, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away suddenly at St. Marguerite Manor in Calgary, AB on Saturday, February 23, 2019. Fred was born in Ancastor, ON on October 6, 1930. At a very young age, he relocated to Manitoba where he met and married Joan Crompton in May of 1953. Together they raised their family, residing in Brandon. Fred worked as a stationary engineer, ending his career at the Brandon University. Fred and Joan enjoyed the outdoors, and were involved with their church, Redeemer Lutheran. He loved travel and enjoyed new experiences with family and friends. In the spring of 2014, he moved to Calgary to be closer to his family. Fred leaves to mourn his daughter Denise (Jamie Phillips) of Airdrie, AB, and their sons Jaysen and Joel and families; son Brad (Val) also of Airdrie, AB and their two children Jordan and Johanna and families; his sisters Betty White, Mary (Paul Edwards) and a brother Gary (Sharon), sister-in-law Jean all of southern Ontario; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families in Ontario, Manitoba and BC. Fred was predeceased by his wife Joan (1999) and the recent passing of his son Duane (2019). A private family memorial will be held in Airdrie.
