DONOHOE: Ellen Dorothy (nee Philpott) Mom, Granny, Auntie Ellen passed away surrounded by her family at Hillcrest Place on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Granny was born on October 4, 1928 to Frederick Philpott and Mary Jane Carter. She grew up in the Hartley school district near Petersfield, Manitoba with big sister Hannah and brothers George and Martin. Sister Lily joined them in 1937. In her early years, Granny was busy attending school, doing chores, and playing with her brothers and sisters. In 1948 she married John Blake Donohoe and by 1970, Ellen and Blake moved their family to Brandon, Manitoba which marked the beginning of Donfield Farms. She was a wonderful mother to her 5 boys Garry (Garda), Keith (Margaret), John (Sandra), Mark (Mary-IdaÝ) and Matthew (Heidi). She was a loving grandmother to her 17 grandchildren: Jamie, Gari-Ellen (Ramon), Tara-Lyn (Tom) and Kate-Lee (John); Gwen (Casey), Amanda and Neil; John Jr. (Rhonda), Travis (Candice) and Kyle (Brittany); Haydn (Laci), Holly and Anna; Austin, Laura (Corey), Alana and Lynnell and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Blake; daughter- in-law, Mary Ida; her parents; brothers and sisters. Our Granny was busy raising her boys, volunteering in the community and all the while keeping up a busy social calendar with Blake. Granny became involved with St. Augustines Church and held many positions within the Catholic Womens League. This June, Granny was to receive her 50 year pin with the CWL in Brandon. She was an active parent in the Brandon 4-H Dairy Club and was always quick to donate homemade baking or afghans to various fundraisers. Granny enjoyed playing cards, bird watching and could be seen most summer evenings tending to her much loved vegetable and flower gardens. Family was always her main priority. She would jump in her Buick, with little concern to a Manitoba winter, and head to The Pas, Basswood or Steinbach to visit her boys and their families. She also crocheted every family member their very own, personalized afghan. Granny was warm hearted and always generous with her time. We will miss our familys matriarch, every day. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, May 9, 2019. Celebrant was with Rev. Fr. Michael R Savarimuthu. Active pallbearers were all of her grandchildren. Interment was at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Ellen may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, 204-825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5. Expressions of sympathymay be made atwww.memorieschapel.com
