MUNROE: Marilyn J. (nee McMullan) passed away in the city on Monday, September 23, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. Marilyn was born on November 2, 1941 to Beth and Bill McMullan and raised in Boissevain. Her first job upon leaving school was with the Boissevain Municipal Office. Marilyn then moved to Saskatoon for a period of time before settling in Brandon where she held jobs in the secretarial/administrative field. She retired from the Brandon Research Station in 2005. In November 1969 Marilyn married Len Munroe of Brandon, thereby setting up the inevitable and unending jokes about her new married name! She and Len shared more than 38 years together before his untimely passing in 2008. They enjoyed many travels to visit family in Ontario and the western provinces, along with a road trip to Texas to visit friends. Marilyns other adventures took her to England and Ireland, a Danube River cruise through five European countries and, most recently, a bus tour through the Maritimes and east coast of the U.S. Marilyn enjoyed working in the back yard with all her flowers (she couldnt wait for the daffodils to appear each spring) and was entertained by the many birds, especially the chickadees, that visited the back deck feeder. She also loved cats and throughout the years, no home was complete without one (or two), the latest being a lovely boy named Leo. Marilyn was a dedicated volunteer at the Brandon Humane Society and the Nearly New Shop for many years. After being diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2016 she sold her home and moved to Rotary Villa, then to Freeman Estates (Daughter on Call) and lastly to Hillcrest Place where she passed away. Marilyn will be deeply missed by numerous nieces and nephews and their families, three sisters-in-law and close friends. She was predeceased by her husband, mother, father, stepmother, four brothers and twin brothers in infancy, one sister, one brother-in-law and Lens parents. A private morning graveside service was held at the Boissevain Cemetery on Thursday, October 3, 2019 with Marilyns niece and her husband, Rev. Patti and Rev. Rick Love officiating. The Celebration of Marilyns Life was held later that afternoon at Memories Chapel, Brandon. Donations in memory of Marilyn may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 220017th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6. A heartfelt thanks to all who attended the cemetery and memorial reception and to Craig Hayward and staff of Memories Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made atwww.memorieschapel.com
